Ever stare at a task you want to doā€¦ and still feel completely unable to start? That can be task paralysisā€”and it is a real ADHD experience, not a character flaw.

When a task feels too big, unclear, boring, urgent, or loaded with too many decisions, your brain may hit the brakes. Instead of pushing harder, try lowering the starting point:

Donā€™t ā€œclean the kitchen.ā€ Put away one item.

Donā€™t ā€œanswer emails.ā€ Open the inbox.

Donā€™t ā€œorganize the closet.ā€ Choose one shelf.

Set a timer for five minutes and give yourself permission to stop when it ends.

Ask for support or try body doublingā€”working alongside someone, virtually or in person.

The goal is not to finish everything today. The goal is to make the next step small enough to begin.

You are not lazy. You may just need a little more structure, less friction, and systems that work with your brain.
