That unexpected rain shower this morning was just what we ordered! Everything at the nursery is looking incredibly bright, washed clean, and completely refreshed today.

Our showcase Lonicera 'Kintzley's Ghost' vine is absolutely loving the damp weather. It has playfully decided to weave its way right through our rustic metal Welcome sign from our friends at Country Vibe Designs, creating the most perfect, effortless garden vignette!

The warm, rusty patina of the sign beautifully sets off those unique, powdery, silvery-blue circular discs. If you want to add a piece of living Iowa history to your landscape that greets your guests just like this, we have a beautiful crop of 'Kintzley's Ghost' ready to climb...and this Welcome sign, too!

Come out and see us this week! We are open Tuesday - Sunday, 9am - 6pm.

Look who’s back and playing hide-and-seek! 🐸

We always say “This is Hosta Country,” but it could be tree frog country, too! It’s always a fun daily game of "Where are the tree frogs sleeping today?"

From blending perfectly into the lush hosta leaves to tucking themselves into the tightest, strangest little spots - like this cozy nook on a sprinkler head - these little masters of camouflage love hanging out around the garden and greenhouses.

Keep your eyes peeled next time you visit - you never know where you'll spot a tiny friend snoozing the day away!

The very first Martagon lily of the season has officially opened! There is nothing quite like those distinctive, dainty blooms to add elegant vertical drama to the early summer shade garden.

As a huge bonus, they make one of the best companion plants for hostas - rising up beautifully through the foliage to provide gorgeous color right when hostas are looking their freshest.

You'll rarely find these at most garden centers, but guess what? We have a great selection of several different varieties available right now at the shop, and most are currently loaded with buds and ready to burst. Stop by and grab yours before they all open up!

We just unpacked these artistic new, rustic metal wind spinners, and they are the perfect statement piece for your garden! Of course, the wind decided to take a total break the second we tried to film them, but trust us, they are mesmerizing when they get moving! 😂 Stop by the shop this week to check them out in person!

Lonicera 'Kintzley's Ghost' (Grape Honeysuckle) is coming into full bloom right now at the nursery, and it is easily one of the most uniquely beautiful vines you will ever lay eyes on!

Those stunning, perfectly circular, silvery-blue discs are actually modified leaves called bracts. They look remarkably like eucalyptus and cup the bright yellow tubular flowers.

What makes this plant even more special is its history. This spectacular vine is a true horticultural heirloom with deep Iowa roots!

It was originally selected and propagated in the 1880s by William Kintzley, who worked in the greenhouses at Iowa State University in Ames.

He shared it only with family members, and it remained a cherished heirloom passed down through generations.

It was completely unknown to most of the world until 2001, when a sharp-eyed plantsman spotted it growing in the yard of Kintzley's grandson in Colorado.

Hummingbirds, native bees, and butterflies absolutely adore the yellow blooms.

Unlike aggressive or invasive imported honeysuckles, this North American native selection is vigorous, yet polite, and won't take over your yard.

It’s incredibly cold-hardy (Zones 4-8), deer-resistant, and quite drought-tolerant once established in full sun to partial shade.

After the flowers pass, the silver discs remain, eventually forming showy red berries that birds love in the fall.

We have a beautiful crop of these history-rich, ready-to-climb vines available right now. Come out to the nursery this week and take home a piece of Iowa's own botanical history!
