Marcot method of Propagation
In this case we are doing roses, but the method will work with virtually and woody stemmed plant.
Materials needed:
1. Media (Coco peat or coco coir soaked in water).
2. Thin aluminum wire, plastic straw, or gardening twine.
3. Sharp sterilized scrapper (Knife or similar instrument)
4. Transparent thin plastic (7x7 inches)
5. Cinnamon powder or rooting hormone
STEPS:
1. Choose a sturdy mature stem to propagate.
2. Choose a portion of the stem between two nodules. (See Photo 1)
3. Using a sharp sterile instrument like a knife make a circular incision near both nodules as a guide for easy stripping. Strip off the bark to expose the cambium. (See photo 2)
4. Wet the exposed cambium and coat with cinnamon powder or rooting hormone. Make sure the part just below the upper node is fully coated. (See photo 3)
5. Cover the stripped portion of the stem with plastic and tie the lower end first. (See photo 4)
6. Fill the plastic with media and wrap it securely around the stem. Tie it tightly to hold the media in place. (See photo 5)
7. The cutting will develop roots in 2 to 3 weeks and look like this. Once it has roots remove the plastic immediately and it is ready to be potted. (See photo 6)
