For our folks that own a home/building around Indy, my company, Crew Property Improvement Specialists would like to know if you have a list of stuff that you need to get done before winter hits? Here are some things to add to your list. And let us know if we can help you get them done!
Winter is almost here. Blech. But there are things that you should be doing (or at least checking) to your home before then. If you do nothing else this year, please check these items:
1. Examine all exterior wood, especially windows, for rotten wood. Take a pen or screwdriver and see if the wood is soft. If it is, it needs to be repaired asap before it allows damage to the inside of your house too.
2. Check gutters for leaves and clogs. Clogged gutters might seem just unsightly, but they are actually a major cause of water and ice damage in winter if the snow/ice/melted snow can't escape freely away from the home.
3. Remove all hoses from outside spigots and turn water off to the spigots from the shut offs and drain all excess water from the lines so that the water in the pipes can't freeze and rupture during the winter.
