SEASONAL GUTTER INSPECTION
Now that spring has arrived the rain is sure to follow. The typical roof in Minnesota will receive over 1,000 gallons of water with each inch of rainfall. Where does this water go? I suggest you break out the umbrella while it is raining and look for yourself. It does not require any background in water management to perform this simple task.
If you have rain gutters, is the water draining through the downspouts (pipes attached to the house walls) directing the water to the ground? Are there ground level extension pipes leading the water away from the foundation? Look for overflows or low spots in the gutters indicated by water flowing over the sides. Check for leaks or dripping in the corners or at the ends of the gutter.
Do the foundation cement blocks have water stains or stay excessively wet after the rain has stopped? Your rain gutters should protect your basement or lower level from any water intrusion. They should prevent ground erosion or puddles forming around the perimeter of your home.
Check your records as to when your gutters were last cleaned or installed. Benjamin Franklin famously said that “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” We are now offering a FREE- Written Gutter Inspection Report with all Spring Gutter Cleanings.
