Another day, another dollar well spent! 💰

Yzma had her teeth floated today and ended up needing quite a bit of work. Thankfully, we have an amazing equine dentist who took great care of her. She’s already feeling much better and can finally eat comfortably again—no more dropping grain or taking forever to chew her hay.

One thing I learned today that I thought was worth sharing: if you have a horse that tends to gulp their feed too quickly or is prone to gorging, try placing a salt block right in their feed tub. They have to work around it, which naturally slows down their eating and can help reduce the risk of choking.✨

It’s always satisfying to get these little maintenance items taken care of and see such an immediate improvement. Happy horse, happy owner @ happy hooves 👏🏽

There’s something special about 6 a.m. chores. The world is still quiet, you’re out before the birds start singing and before the crickets call it a night. The morning light is pure magic, the horses are just waking up, and the coffee is always hot. ☕🐴✨

Buster & Nugget, 🫶🏼🥹
After nearly six months apart, these two horses saw each other for the first time today.

The very first thing they did was begin mutual grooming—a behavior where horses gently nibble and scratch each other’s necks and withers. It’s how they strengthen bonds, show trust, and care for one another.

No introductions needed. No hesitation. Just an instant reminder that horses form real friendships and never forget their friends.

Watching them reconnect like this was a beautiful reminder of just how deep those bonds can be. ❤️🐴

You can start to feel just a hint of coolness in the air. It’s subtle, but it’s there. 🍂(or am I just being hopeful?) 🙄😅

We’re still chugging along with 100° days, but that first little reminder of fall has us counting down to the break in the heat. Until then, you’ll find us out in the field enjoying cold watermelon, cool showers, and soaking up every summer evening we can.

Fall trail season, we’re ready for you. 🤎🐴

I didn’t think I could love Yzma any more than I already did… but here we are. ❤️

After working through an injury, today was the first time I was finally able to get back in the saddle and ride her myself. Up until now, my husband has been the one putting the miles on her, and I can’t tell you how good it felt to be back aboard.

This mare continues to steal my heart. We’re working hard to get her back in shape and feeling her very best, and every ride reminds me just how special she is.

Keep an eye out—Yzma will be joining our leasing program soon. She’ll only be available to the right rider, but trust me, she’s worth the wait. 🐴✨

As summer starts to wind down, we can’t wait to hit the trails and enjoy everything the upcoming season has to offer. Happy Hooves has a lot in store, and we’re glad Jesse and Buster are here for the ride.

One of the things I find most fascinating about horses is how quickly they can form social bonds.

This mare has only been part of this herd for three days, yet she’s already choosing to spend her time close to the geldings and engaging in friendly social behavior. Horses are herd animals by nature, and in the wild their safety depends on forming relationships, understanding social structure, and recognizing trusted companions.

When horses stand quietly together, seek each other out, or engage in mutual grooming, they’re doing more than just sharing space—they’re building connections and establishing their place within the herd.

It’s remarkable to watch a new horse arrive and, within just a few days, begin developing the relationships that make a herd function. Observing these interactions never gets old. Every horse brings their own personality, and every herd tells its own story. 🐴❤️
