🐍 We found a garter snake while weeding the flower garden last night!

The kids thought it was the coolest thing ever and spent quite a while checking it out (and yes, touching it 😅). After a quick visit, we let it go right back where we found it.

Just another exciting Friday night on the flower farm. 🌸

🌱 Why I Pinch My Snapdragons ✂️

If you’re growing snapdragons for cut flowers, pinching is a simple way to get more blooms!

By removing the center growing stem while the plant is young, it will branch out and produce multiple flowering stems instead of just one.

✅ More stems to harvest
✅ Fuller plants
✅ Longer harvest season

The blooms may come a little later, but you’ll get many more flowers in the long run.

🌿 One of the most-used tools in our yard! 🌿

We use this retractable garden hose every single day during the growing season. The 100-foot hose gives us plenty of reach around the flower farm, and the swivel mount makes it easy to pull in different directions without fighting the hose.

When you’re finished watering, just give it a little tug and it automatically retracts back into the reel. Occasionally you may need to adjust the angle of the hose so it can wind back in smoothly, but it does all the heavy lifting for you!

If you’re looking for an easy way to keep your garden hose organized and tangle-free, this has been a great addition to our setup. There are multiple lengths and hose options - we have the 100’ x 5/8” hose!

🎃 Pumpkin update! 🌱

We planted these pumpkin seeds on Memorial Day, and this video was taken Saturday. They’re coming up nicely and off to a great start!

We plant our pumpkins fairly close together, and every year we still end up with plenty of pumpkins. One of our favorite parts is trying new varieties each season—especially pumpkins with unique shapes, colors, textures, and other fun features that make them stand out.

Now we just need some sunshine, rain, and a little patience! ☀️🎃

🌱 Garden Update! 🌱

This garden is officially fully planted! 🙌

We made it before June, which feels like a huge accomplishment. Of course, there will likely be a little replanting here and there as we see what comes up and what doesn’t, but for now every row is planted and growing.

The next few weeks will be filled with plenty of weeding, watering, and watching these tiny seedlings take off. It’s hard to imagine now, but before long this space will be overflowing with blooms. 💐

We’re thankful for the beautiful weather windows God provided to get everything in the ground and excited to see what this season brings!

These snapdragons started as tiny plugs, and now they’re settling into the field beautifully! 🌱

Next week I’ll come through and pinch each plant. It feels a little scary the first time, but pinching encourages branching, which means more stems and more blooms later in the season. 🌸

Growing flowers is all about thinking ahead to harvest time!

🌱 Saving seeds from your favorite flowers is easier than you might think!

These celosia seeds came from plants we grew last year. I saved blooms in my favorite autumn colors, let them dry in a simple brown paper bag, and collected the seeds that fell to the bottom.

For planting, I lightly scratch the soil surface, sprinkle the seeds, gently press them in, and let nature do the rest. A simple way to grow more of the flowers you love year after year. 🍂🌾

🌱 Planting celosia seedlings grown in soil blocks!

One of the biggest benefits of soil blocking is how easy transplanting can be. We simply separate the seedlings, place them in the ground, and they’re ready to grow. No plastic trays, minimal root disturbance, and quick planting days when you have hundreds of flowers to get in the field.

These celosia will be blooming later this summer and adding plenty of color to our cut flower garden! 🌸
