Richard Genco has taken thousands of dollars from multiple individuals. Some were able to get their money returned after they involved local law enforcement and threatened prosecution of fraud. Others he took thousands of dollars from, completed some work, took more money, then disappeared. One customer is out $10,000 or more. Rich did an insurance job for this customer, completed it, and afterwards the customer had water damage issues due to poor quality workmanship. That customer now doesn’t have the money to hire someone else to do the original repairs needed properly and also fix the damage caused by Rich’s poor workmanship. Rich has never made an attempt to fix the problems he caused for this customer or return any of her money. These stories are real, and real ppl just like you were and still are affected by them!

Some text messages from Rich. Take your time to read. It shows how he runs in circles and drags you along. Then at the end he attempts to place blame instead of accepting ownership but wants to claim to be a man of his word.

Rich took $1000 from this client and left the job immediately after accepting the money. He never provided an invoice or receipt when requested. The client became unsettled after a no call no show on the advised return date then researched RTA on Google only to find the negative reviews nobody wants to find afterwards. The client then contacted Rich to request a refund. This is what took place after the request.

At the end “yesterday 7/6/22” in the text messages. Rich started sending those after his girlfriend’s father went to their home and gave him a reality check. After 3 weeks of dragging his feet and getting chewed out by his girlfriend’s father, Rich finally decided to refund $800.

Please beware of this business, the owner and his sketchy business practices. To start -Rich with RTA Restoration claims to be a licensed contractor, which is 100% not true and that was confirmed by the West Virginia Department of Labor. We signed a contract on June 28, 2022 (with a 50% deposit paid totaling $1,050) with a start date of November 1st and his wording that follows stated "if completion of any other projects happen sooner and availability opens up, we will be in contact with the client to start sooner but NEVER LATER THAN THE START DATE LISTED ABOVE". We reached out to him two weeks before November 1st to see if we were still on track to start on the 1st. He said he had to double check his schedule. A week later I tried to check back in - no answer. Then on October 31st, he said he was sick. November 1st he came with an employee and left after 5 minutes - no work was completed or even started. I asked when he will be back.. - he said November 2nd (the next day). No one showed up. Then he said early morning November 3rd - no one showed up. So due to him breaching the contract, we asked for our deposit back. The 50% deposit was to cover labor costs for our job of installing insulation in our garage... but he didn't have our money, which confuses me as to how was he even going to pay his employees for work if they actually showed up... Anyways, we told him that he has until December 1st to give us the deposit back, and he said "I will have it to you before December 1st". I said great. Two weeks later, I checked in to see if we were still on track to receive our deposit by the 1st, and his response was "mhmm". (All via text) Come November 30th, I messaged him and he told me he didn't have the money still and that he was waiting to be paid from a job. Now I am a VERY understanding person, but to tell me you would pay me BEFORE the 1st then not hold on to your end of the deal.. and not even have it on the date I told him is what makes things seem very sketchy. Then he proceeded to tell me that per his lawyer he should've charged me additional fees (contract fees apparently). November 3rd, we got all but $30 back. Fast forward to June 17, Rich came up to me at the WV Fest and handed me $30 cash and said “sorry about all that” and walked away. If he hadn’t had run into me that day, I would not have received the $30 or a half ass apology.

This whole situation has taken up a lot of our time that we will never get back. But just because we got our money back, does not mean I will stop advocating for the others that haven't (and there are MANY others). This review is also to people who are looking for work to be done around their homes, and all I can say is stay away from this guy. And looks like he is still doing what he’s doing… 8 months later. What a shame. Extremely disappointing.

Also to add: per the WV Department of Labor, he was given a cease and desist and is not supposed to be working in the state whatsoever. As of today, he is still not licensed as a contractor and we have no proof of him being insured. There’s also been some previous employees speaking out about how Rich has not paid them.

Any positive feedback he has received on Google are from either himself, his girlfriend or friends. They are not factual. They are lies.

This is my review from Google. Rich has disabled Google reviews for RTA.

First off, I’ve spoken with several people that have hired Rich in the past and if I would have known what I know now, I would have never gave him any money nor allowed him in my home. Rich comes off as a great guy eager to work. This is part of his process to swindle money from you. Don’t fall for it.

Rich provided me an estimate for labor only as I was providing the materials needed to remodel a bathroom. He requested a down payment of $1,000 which I paid in cash. Shortly after I gave him the deposit he packed up and left my home, only completing 2 hours of work that day. I asked him to update the estimate to an invoice and send me a receipt for my payment. It never happened. He advised he would return that Saturday to continue the work on my bathroom. He no called no showed. I began to investigate him to learn what I could of his past and I ran into exactly what I was afraid of.

Five days after giving him a deposit and not hearing anything out of him I reach out and requested that he return $700 of the $1000 I gave him that I would allow him to keep $300 for the 2 hours of work. Rich had his stories for why he didn’t have the money and has done nothing but lie and give me the run around on returning the $700.

I was transparent with him in my reason for requesting a refund. I advised I was no longer comfortable with him and simply wanted $700 returned. I advised if he returned the $700 his word would have merit with me and we could just go separate ways. I explained I hoped he could work through everything he had going on but I don’t have the time or energy to deal with stuff like this.

Kimi Demarco has left a review here for him, she is his current girlfriend and is aware of his past dealings but has now decided to advocate for him by referring folks to Rich to be swindled. I’m wouldn’t trust either one of them. I know her father personally and it’s shameful she is tarnishing the Demarco name, at least she has for me. I originally decided to hire Rich because she referred him to my wife through our church group and when my wife mention Kimi had made the referral I was confident we had a good person to deal with. WRONG!

The other folks here that have left a positive review are also acquaintances of Rich, not true customers. I have spoken directly with each person that has left a negative review here and on yelp and I can assure you their stories and statements are true.

I too have spoken with the Labor Department and have confirmed Rich does not have a contractors license. I’ve also never seen an active liability policy from him. Maybe since he has left himself a review, here on Google, he can update it with photos and show everyone his active license and liability policy and I’ll gladly retract this part of my review.

Rich is a true class act scam artists. He will take your money and run!

I may be out $1,000 but I’ve met others that are out 10’s of thousands and my interaction with Rich opened up the opportunity to advocate for them.

Rich, when you read this just so you know I still hope you are able to turn yourself around and right the wrongs you have done but continuing down the same road will not put you in a better place. You’ve got to accept what you’ve done, take ownership of your actions, and start making things right.
