FLOORING DO's & DONT's AND HOW TO GO ABOUT THEM

Play with Different Flooring Styles
Most people often ask, should the flooring be the same throughout the house? The simple answer is no. If you have various flooring materials that you love, you can combine them. However, be careful when mixing colors and patterns. Flooring material is designed to last for several years. Ensure you choose style and material that can stand the test of time and not ones that will bore you. Interior designers advise you to select subtle tones of one color, which helps to liven up your home.

When Is the Best Time of Year to Install Flooring?

The best times of year are usually the shoulder seasons for installing custom wood floors. The spring and the fall are the most optimal seasons flooring projects. The main reason is the relative humidity levels are around 35%, which is as good as it gets for any project.

April, May, and early June are ideal spring months to do a new installation, while late September, October, and early November are ideal for fall installations.

We always like to suggest to our clients that we coordinate an installation with school vacations, holidays, or trips they’re taking so we can get in and out! They can arrive home to a beautiful new hardwood floor. Does it get any better than that!?

FLOORING DO's & DONT's AND HOW TO GO ABOUT THEM

Flooring Dos
1. Consider the Layout of Your Home
Before you think about mixing flooring types in your home, you need to consider its layout. For example, if you have an open-plan layout or clearly divided rooms, you may need different flooring for these rooms depending on their need. Also, separate flooring for the rooms adds a different feel to each room. On the other hand, having the same flooring in an open plan home adds more continuity and may make your house appear bigger.

While considering your home’s layout, remember not to forget its architectural integrity. In addition, you need to make your home reflect your personal style. Such considerations can pay off if you ever choose to sell your home.

UNIQUELY SHAPED AND BOLD OVERSIZED RUGS

Lately, there’s been a trend toward rugs with bold patterns and unique shapes. Larger rugs that anchor a room have also become popular in the open concept homes that are now common.

This is what some clients are adding to an updated floor or refinishing to add more vibrance to an existing floor and also protects the flooring for a longer period of time

CHEVRON CONFIGURATIONS

“The chevron flooring pattern has always been around, but it’s starting to really push its way to the forefront in making flooring look and feel more interesting and textural. 2023 will see more people installing their wood flooring in a chevron design to invoke a more luxe look in their homes.

Herringbone or chevron pattern is always a favorite and never goes out of style and creates more visual interest than a typical wood floor. Innovative layouts are gaining popularity.

TILED FLOORS FTW (ESPECIALLY FLAGSTONE)

This larger format tile trend will be perfect for using throughout kitchens and even in some open concept spaces. Flagstone, limestone, and sandstone are just a couple materials that will be spotted in 2023.

Flagstone flooring will be making a comeback in a big way in 2023. It’s versatile, durable, natural, and cool.

Though wood flooring has been the dominant force for homes, people are starting to look at having their main flooring be tile instead. This is because wood flooring, though warmer, gets scratched, dented, and fades in the sunlight easier than tile.

Cleaning tile floors is easier as well because you don’t have to worry as much about chemicals or food falling on it and staining the tile.

RESTAINING VERSUS REPAINTING

If saving money is your goal but you want a new look “Try to work with what you have! Keeping your existing floor is a smart way to save costs.

We can keep a client’s existing orange Saltillo tile kitchen floor and stain it a darker milk chocolate color. It looks gorgeous mixed with a watery-blue cabinetry!”

6 Home Decor Trends For Flooring in 2023, According to Flooring Contractors

BUDGET FRIENDLY CHECKERBOARD FLOORS

We have noticed a lot of checkered patterned flooring that’s been creeping up in spaces. This trend will become bigger in 2023. People are liking the traditional look of creating this look with contrasting marbles, but consumers are also using paint to create a similar effect on wood floorings since tiling can be more expensive to install. Whether diamond or the standard checkered board pattern, this look will become more prevalent in the upcoming new year

SUBTLE WOOD GRAINING

“In 2023, the trend for hardwood is moving away from grainy, rustic wide plank options towards a more subtle grain with clean looks. Color is moving away from gray and into light natural oak territory, which offers natural, neutral floor colors versatile enough to fit with a variety of living spaces.
