WE ARE HIRING

Untitled Architecture is seeking a project manager with three to five years of experience to join our Jackson, Wyoming studio. Candidates should have a BA or MA degree in architecture, strong communication skills, and proficiency in BIM modeling and Adobe Creative Suite. Salaries are based on the AIA scale and we provide a full benefits package.

Untitled Architecture is an in-person studio. In addition to the regular site visits inherent to our line of work, we have found that the collaborative design process works best when we share work space and can sit around a table together. The collegiate studio environment we have created is an important aspect of our office, offering the benefits of direct and indirect information sharing and the opportunity for regular informal design discussions.

We are in the final stages of this guest house in Jackson, WY.

Project description: This guest house and gym in Jackson, WY consists of two enclosed volumes that are connected by a shared roof and arranged to create a sheltered entry and deck. The building is clad with clear, vertical grain cedar siding to match the adjacent main house and structured with exposed heavy timbers. If the design of the adjacent main house was influenced predominantly by mid-century American architecture with a touch of Japanese design influence, the guest house leans more heavily on traditional Japanese design principles with a touch of mid-century modernism. The building site is located at the foot of the Snake River bench in sagebrush flats and is oriented to square up to dramatic views of the Tetons from Rendezvous Mountain at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort to the Grand Teton.

The big ridge beam is up on our multi-family project in Jackson, WY. A primary design element of the building is a wood screen that peels away from the street-facing façade to signify the entry point to the building and provide shading and privacy to interior spaces. The screen is conceived of as a relative of the ubiquitous snow fences that parallel western highways to keep them free of windblown snow. The screen conceals a dogtrot that acts as the access point for each unit and a rooftop deck. In an effort to get natural light into the basement unit, deep light wells were added to the rear and side yards and filled with a cascading boulder field and native flora.

Construction photos of a renovation in East Jackson. The extensive work consolidates the circulation between five split levels, raises low ceilings, expands shared living space and increases the window openings to better take advantage of the creekside site. Galvanized steel shrouds frame the windows and, in tandem with barn red siding, redefine the exterior aesthetic. Swipe to the end to see a “before” photo.

“Garden of Lanterns” was a one-night event last October, envisioned by Bronwyn Minton and put on by Jackson Hole Public Art. Our installation is the latest in a series of public art projects we have worked on with Jackson Hole Public Art over the years– many of which predate our opening the doors of Untitled Architecture.

Continuing our “architectural” approach to art, our lantern was a habitable, 15-foot tall wood and fabric construction that takes formal cues from early airships and indigenous tipis and utilizes boat-building methods to create a curved structure. We steam-bent red oak ribs around CNC-cut OSB forms and connected them with slender strips cut from standard 2x6 lumber. The wood frame is wrapped in Polytab fabric. Once assembled, we removed the OSB forms leaving us with a lightweight but sturdy construct.

We were happy to see it had particularly strong engagement from the younger attendees of the event– being one of the few lanterns you could go inside. Throughout the event, a continuous cycle of kids flowed in and out of the lantern.

Progress photos of a home in Bondurant, WY. Sited on the brow of a hill, it overlooks the Gros Ventre, Wind River and Wyoming mountain ranges. The post and beam construction sits atop a helical pier foundation due to poor soil conditions. The raised structure causes little disturbance to the site, allowing the ground plane to remain in tact and flow under the building.

A set of renderings of a new home in NW Wyoming. The building is tucked up to the treeline of an aspen forest with a kinked form that follows the contours of the topography. The space between the home and the treeline is preserved as an outdoor room. Views to a mountain range to the north and a seasonal creek with vibrant willows and abundant wildlife to the east are the focus of the bedrooms, a dining deck and a writer’s nook.

We are approaching the finish line on Red Top Meadows Residential Treatment Facility. The ribbon cutting is less than a month out and we’re excited to see the final pieces come together. More information on this project is available on our website.
