Happy World Architecture Day! Today is a day to celebrate and show appreciation for the work of architects around the world. We have an amazing team of architects here at Basham and Lucas and in honor of the day we asked everyone to share a piece of architecture history that is important to them with you all. Celebrate this day by taking a moment to learn something you didn’t know about architecture!
From Paul Basham, a favorite architect and constant source of inspiration, Frank Llyod Wright. Check out our feature on his Fallingwater Architecture in our Instagram Linktree.
From Mike Lucas, explore the architecture of two very different places. Neuschwanstein Castle, “Fun Fact, it’s the castle featured in the classic film, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” - https://www.luxury-architecture.net/amazing-history-architecture-neuschwanstein-castle/ The Acropolis - https://whc.unesco.org/en/list/404/
From Ramil Alipio, the Metropol Parasol or also known as Setas de Sevilla (mushrooms of Seville) by Jurgen Mayer, a German Architect. “The structure is made from wood and concrete. It was an amazing piece of art and architecture from a trip in 2019.” https://archello.com/project/metropol-parasol
From Suzanne Pauli, “When we were in LA a few years ago, I really enjoyed visiting The Getty Center by Richard Meier.” https://www.tripsavvy.com/getty-museum-architecture-pictures-4120710
From John Pauli, the Casa Batlló in Barcelona, Spain. “Take the virtual tour, it’s pretty cool.” https://www.casabatllo.es/tour-virtual/
From Daniel Clegg, “Earthships would be my post of interest, they illustrate many passive and green techniques that can be used in buildings if the interest is there. They have a unique look, but the concepts behind the design are what make it interesting for me.” https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earthship
Two of our Architects endorse learning about this next place, La Sagrada Familia.
From Ashely Tudor, “Antonio Gaudí is one of my absolute favorite architects. He was an absolute genius way before his time. His masterpiece La Sagrada Familia was constructed in 1882 and it is still to this day being completed because his design was so far advanced modern-day technology, architects, and methods of construction are still figuring out the build of this masterpiece”
From Ben Morrison, “This is my favorite building I have visited in my travels over the years. It is just so amazing to me to see a building continue to be constructed to fulfill an architect’s vision even 100 years after his passing.” https://sagradafamilia.org/en/
From Matt Relyea, a favorite architect to learn about, The Mexican Modernist and Master of Color, Luis Barragan. https://mymodernmet.com/luis-barragan-mexican-modernist-architect/
From Bill Wilber, The Dune House by William Morgan, right here in Florida. https://usmodernist.org/wmorgan.htm
From Rachel Fugate, “I always gravitate towards the combination of architecture and nature. The Vertical Forest in Milan by the Stefano Boeri firm is one of my favorites.” https://www.stefanoboeriarchitetti.net/en/project/vertical-forest/
