Which locking mechanism makes LVP more durable?
✅Drop-lock system:
Why it causes problems:
1. Weaker joint
•Relies on a thin locking strip snapping into place
•Easier to break or not fully engage
2. High install error risk
•If not perfectly tapped → looks installed but isn’t
•Leads to gaps, lifting, or separation later
3. Can break during install
•Too much force with a mallet damages the locking mechanism
•Once damaged, it won’t hold
✅Interlocking / Corner-to-Corner (Angle-Angle) System:
Why it’s better:
1. Stronger lock
•The plank is inserted at an angle and fully engages the entire locking system
•Creates a tighter, more secure connection
•Less chance of separation over time
2. Handles movement better
•Expands and contracts more naturally without breaking the joint
•Ideal for Florida humidity changes
3. More forgiving during install
•Easier to feel when it’s properly locked
•Less risk of partially locked planks (which cause future failures)
4. Better long-term durability
•Holds up better under traffic, furniture, and rolling chairs
•Less likely to fail at the seams
