If you have an extension spring system on your garage door THIS ONE’S FOR YOU!!
One of the most common issues with a garage door that has an extension spring system (where the springs run parallel to the horizontal tracks and extend out when the door closes) is when the pulleys that guide the cables start going out. This is typically a slow process and the door may continue to seemingly operate ok, but if too much time passes without proper maintenance and repair these guys can and often do cause major issues, and can also be a danger to people and to vehicles.
In the picture you can see the difference between an old worn out pulley (top) and a new pulley. They are under so much consistent use and tension that the bearings surrounding the center wheel start to wear down which leaves slack, causing the pulley to bind up, and in some cases allowing the bearings to fall out making the pulley completely seize up!
Some things to look for to see if the pulleys on your garage door need replaced are loud clicking noises, the door is jumping around, the door is operating and/or closing unlevel, the pulleys are wobbly or they look like the top one in this picture when the door is closed.
If you are seeing/hearing any of these issues please call Jasper Garage Doors at 316.670.6015 to schedule your service appointment, and feel free to ask for your friendly neighborhood garage door Dr!! 😁
God bless!!
