But we have a Butters update to share with you all she looks a lot slimmer then she did on Monday and I am happy to announce that she had a beautiful little heifer calf on Tuesday evening while we where off the farm. We have had a busy couple of weeks around the homestead. We got our side by side up and running just in time to get started on wood for this fall. We started back home school with the kids. We are trying to work on getting our milk cow moved again I'll make a separate post ofr her. We added some meat ducks that I got from a friend and we should be processing meat chickens here soon with in the next week or two. So there's just been a lot going on and I'll go in depth on each one just wanted to give a quick view of what we have going on. Stay tuned for more exciting activities on the homestead.

Welcome to Hand Hewn Homestead.
We've had quite a few new people join us recently, so we wanted to take a moment to introduce ourselves and share a little about who we are. My husband's name is Cecil my name is Emily and we have two boys named Everett and Elijah. We are the family behind Hand Hewn Homestead, a small family farm in the hills of Eastern Kentucky. The name hand hewn reflects what we're trying to build. Just as a hand hewn timber is carefully shaped to last for generations, we're working to build a farm with that same purpose, one rooted in faith, stewardship, hard work and family. Our goal isn't to be the biggest farm or the most modern. It's to build a farm that honors the wisdom of those that came before us while embracing the tools and the practices that help us care well for the land today. We believe good farming starts with good stewardship. That means caring for our animals, improving our pastures, and leaving the land healthier than we found it. Today that includes raising pasture poultry and pigs and as we grow we are looking forward to adding grass-fed beef back to the farm. Overtime, you'll also see us sharing some of the traditional skills that inspire us from preserving old farm knowledge to working towards implementing draft horses alongside practical modern tools. We believe some traditions are worth keeping, not simply because they're old, but because they still teach us something about caring for the land and the people around us. This page isn't just about what we hope to sell someday. It's about sharing the journey of building a family farm from the ground up. We'll share the successes, the setbacks, the lessons we learn, and the everyday work that goes into creating the kind of farm we've always hope to leave for the next generation. Whether you've been following us from the beginning or you're just joining us thank you for being here. We hope you'll enjoy following along as Hand Hewn Homestead grows one season, one project, and one faithful step at a time. We're so glad you're here.
