We WILL Grow School and Community Garden Program

We WILL Grow School and Community Garden Program We WILL Grow Community Garden Program and Partners are working to build a Will County Food System

The We WILL Community Garden Program, started in 2014, to teach the ease of growing fresh fruits and vegetables to all Will County residents. As of 2021 there are 29 gardens in the program, 14 of which are supplying fresh produce directly to food pantries located in Will County food deserts in Will County. In 2021 the total estimated garden harvest was 200,000 pounds due to the mild autumn weather

. COVID-19 has laid bare the health disparities of our residents, and several of the co-morbidities associated with this virus's deadly impact are food related, and the We WILL Grow Community Garden Program, with our County, Community, Religious, Institutional and Not for Profit Partners are working together to bring healthy food options to residents living in food deserts and build resilient communities . This work could not be done without partners that include: Will County MAPP Collaborative, The National Hook Up of Black Women Joliet Chapter, Illinois Partners in Hope, Lockport Township High School, Will County Farm Bureau, Lewis University Department of Community Engaged Learning, University of Illinois Extension, Will County GIS and Sharefest Will County.
