We took some time to try and build a home base, but we've realized that’s just not where our hearts are. The past few months, Phil has been more stressed, more on edge, and honestly not someone people wanted to be around—and that’s not who he wants to be.
Part of the struggle is the market here. There’s no real competition when it comes to quality, but there’s always someone willing to undercut the price by hundreds of dollars. What we might bid at $1,000, someone else will slash just to win the job. And while we're not claiming to be the fastest or the flashiest climber, we will stand on this—we care about doing it right. If that means taking extra time or making a few calls to make sure it’s done properly, that’s exactly what we'll do.
So with that in mind, we are shifting our focus.
Instead of trying to force something that doesn’t fit, we want to work alongside companies that actually want to do tree work the right way. Companies that care about proper practices, safety, and long-term results—not just quick profit. We want to help build those kinds of operations up as a contractor and be part of something bigger than just our own workload.
We’ve never wanted to be a big production outfit with multiple crews, a fleet of machines breaking down, and constant chaos. That’s not the goal.
The goal has always been simple: pay our bills, put money away for Xavier, and have the freedom to live life and take time off when we want.
And looking ahead, the bigger vision is this—building a community of like-minded companies in Joplin and the surrounding area. A network focused on real tree care, not just profit margins. A standard that actually means something.
That’s what we want to be part of.
