Earlier this spring, I was fortunate enough to have a vacant house to paint in the Westwood neighborhood. This single family home was built in 1906, and before I started, every room had light-yellow walls and off-white trim.
I started by removing nine door handles, two doors, six shelves, two thermostats, thirty-eight outlet covers, and the blinds from eighteen windows. I filled the holes from the blinds, and to help eliminate air leaks, caulk was required between the wall and the window frame. Additionally, to help with sanitation, I applied caulk around the built-in in the living room, the countertops, cabinets, sinks and toilets in the kitchen and bathrooms, and finally around the steps leading upstairs to quite the creaking.
After much filling, sanding, cleaning and taping, it was finally time for paint!
The Master Bedroom, Laundry Room, and Two Bedrooms were updated with a blue-gray color, called “Gray Screen”. I used a light brown / tan color called “Sand Dollar” in the Kitchen and the downstairs bathroom, and then used a light-mint green color called “Lacewing” for the Living Room, Dining Room, stairway, and upstairs hallway.
Finally, all of the doors, trim, and shelves were painted with a white Sherwin Williams, ProClassic Waterborne Interior Acrylic Enamel, with a Semi-Gloss Sheena! I specifically chose this high-impact paint to ensure long lasting results!
My favorite part about this house project was when I busted open the painted-shut built-in’s in the living room and made them function again! And how funny; the shelves inside the built-in were a very similar green to the “Lacewing” green I used for the walls!

Adding new life to some faded green shutters with a fresh coat of black paint!

With the help from Western Wash, we were able to remove, clean, paint, and reinstall these second story shutters! (The home owner completed the first story) We also added a fresh coat of paint on home owner's fiberglass urn planters that sit on their front porch as a surprise!

We cleaned up this fence line between two houses in the city limits of Kalamazoo!

The customer's biggest request for this project was to eliminate the need for a w**d wacker along the fence. We also removed some soil below the fence line to prevent moisture from rotting the wooden panels. This will allow for proper air flow between the bottom of the fence and the top of the mulch.

Improving the curb appeal on this historic front porch!

We extended the width of the garden bed by tearing out 6" of grass. After pulling the w**ds, tilling the ground, and laying some landscape fabric, we topped it off with some fresh mulch and beautiful boulders as a border.

Spring is here, time to clean up the yard!

We kicked off this year by cleaning up the fence line between a client’s property and an apartment complex!

Nothing short of blowing leaves, pulling w**ds, install landscape fabric and lay some mulch! We topped this project off by installing some black mesh fabric on the fence for some much needed privacy!
