David Cooper, artist Fine art paintings by David Cooper. David Cooper paints a very impressionistic look on current American life. I paint fast and without a duplicated procedure.

His subjects depict everyday attitudes representing figures, landscapes and still life images. My art has been described as living somewhere between reality and expression, contemporary and realism. My paintings evolve constantly, changing in form, technique and color; some ending with a pure impression and others more defined. The manipulation of shape and textures is an on-going process. I was e

ducated in the Armin Hoffman "Swiss Style" program of visual expression in the relationships of point, line, and shape. That discipline became the structure of evaluating artwork. An artist has to know themselves and be true to their unique capabilities. I am an extemporaneous painter. Painting is the adventure of exploration. Art critics and judges looking at my body of work have stated I record present day American lifestyle. The child in me possesses a creative mind, questioning the "what if" and trying to create a statement about everyday passage through life. I work minimal to detail sometimes using the same brush because it becomes comfortable. There are times I love the original sketchy stage. Times I like detail and times I get frustrated and just meander around. Finally are times i am infatuated with the texture and glob on paint. I never knew when a painting was finished. I learned Its finished when there is nothing left to do. Sometimes it is the beginning rough in stage and others take up to 30 years.

"14 Mles From Ellsworth" 21 X 31" OIL.
I was returning from the middle of KS and passed this old gasoline station years ago and thought it was strange by itself next to the highway and vacant. Green energy was being supported by the democrats which included the phase-out of fosil fuels. I painted the scene but it had no interest. Several years later I was in Florida and saw lots of people using bicycles for transportation to the beaches. They were traveling faster than the cars on the conjested highway. I added the bicycle riders to the scene as a source of renewable energy. The dark stormy sky was painted as symbol of green energy having growing pains, regulatory hurdles, and specific corporate struggles in irs push for expansion and innovation.

"31st and Southwest Trafficway" . I painted this several years ago. It is an intercection in KCMO. Soutwest traficway haa a lot of fine Mexican restaurants. I was just at this corner a week ago on my way to Buttonwood Art Space at 31st and Main. I am so glad I did this scene because it has changed. The owners have painted the building a glaring white with blue letters it is horrible. They destroyed the charm ot the scene. It also became a corner where a person the killed a year ago. It also made me realize is plein air painters are recording history every time we paint.

Bent's Old Fort, located in southeastern Colorado, was built in 1833 as a trading post for buffalo robes and served as a key settlement along the Santa Fe Trail until its abandonment in 1849. The fort has been reconstructed and is now a National Historic Site, offering visitors a glimpse into its historical significance and role in trade with Native American tribes. I did this painting as part of a book I did titled “What Became of the Santa Fe Trail”. It tells the story of the condition of the trail today and my impressions of scenes along the trail.

"Color 127"
Oil 12 X 12. Color study. Abstracts are difficult for me
so I try to simulate a color mixing palette that I use to mix paint when creating a painting. This is mixing color then scraping and adding more color and smudging it to create a color field on canvas. Our minds put together a perspective of sky, horizon and foreground. It is what we see everyday. When creating abstracts it is what the artist deals with. If you do that the viewer is comfortable. If you don't the viewer is not comfortable. This suggests clouds a street and possibly a small black building, yet it has blotches of color that are not identifiable. The color blotches make you look so your mind can try to search in your data base to understand what those spots are and where they came from. That's why this is called an abstract.

Made new sky bkg. to this new painting of 31St & Southwest Boulevard in Kansas City MO. SW BLVD has lots of Mexican Restaurants and the street also gets flooded and is impassable during hard rains. Yet the street weathers the storms. Always loved this scene of the Kansas City Skyline. This is my version of a location I have passed many times.

"Fun at the Lake" Five of my family generations have taken summer trips to the Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri.
we fished, took trips in boats and pontoons, water skied, jumped and played in the water. This painting celebrates those weekend trips.
