Before the weather changes and we get buried in snow. Here are a few tips if you live in a mobile home.
Here are some ways to prevent pipes from freezing in a trailer home during winter:
1- Insulate pipes: Use foam-based sleeves to insulate pipes, especially in unheated areas like basements, lofts, or outside. Thinner pipes require thicker insulation.
2- Use heat tape: Wrap heat tape around water pipes and plug it into an electrical supply. Heat tape automatically turns on when the temperature drops to a certain point, warming the pipes to prevent freezing.
3- Open cabinets: Periodically open cabinets in the kitchen and bathroom to allow warm air to circulate around the plumbing.
4- Let faucets drip: A small trickle of water running from a faucet or two can prevent pressure from building up in the pipes. This is only necessary if the insulation is poor or there is a history of frozen pipes.
5- Seal cracks and holes: Seal any cracks in the walls that allow cold air in.
6- Seal leaks: Use caulk or insulation to seal any air leaks around pipes, dryer vents, and electrical wiring.
7- Disconnect hoses: Before winter, disconnect garden hoses and drain any water from the pipes.
