We have been busy the past few weeks. Spring work has already started! Today we installed these cooper colored gutters and down spouts on this shop in Jasper County! 75% of the calls we have received this year have been from torn off gutters from the snow and ice sliding off steel roofs. Before considering a steel roof or building a steel building make sure to add some sort of snow or ice guard to keep that from happening or keep the good old asphalt shingle. Snow and ice guard may not be a fix all to keep this from happening but it may help so please consider when installing a steel roof. The reason this happens is the heat that is generated from the sun or escaping heat due to poor insulation causes the snow or ice to melt and when it breaks lose it could slide off in massive chunks and the only thing to slow it down is the gutter ripping it lose from the fascia. Snow or ice guard will help catch, slow down, and even break that ice up in to smaller pieces that could save your gutter and also save you some money. The reason it happens less frequently with a asphalt shingle is the surface slows the snow or ice down as it is not a slick surface like steel.
