Some pix from a remodel located in a lower flat in San Francisco completed in Fall 2014. This is a rental unit for the owner's nephew and young family. Goal was to keep it light, bright and happy looking! In the kitchen oak flooring was installed to match existing throughout the house. Cabinets are two tone: Lower cabinets are maple for warmth, upper cabinets are painted white to reflect light as kitchen is located in center of building. Countertop is IRG's Pental Quartz in Serra Polished and the backsplash is glossy white subway tile blending the modern and traditional. In the adjoining laundry room/pantry, a yellowy-green for the walls with loads of crisp white shelving! The existing toilet room was made into a powder room by adding a small sink and mirror. The existing 1932 hex tile with gray blue accent tile was kept but offset with a green apple paint color. Hand towels have a border to unify the color scheme.

Hello Summer!
Tired of your sofa? Go to your local home improvement store and purchase a 9x15 canvas drop cloth. For about $30 you have a beachy, casual look and a "new" sofa!
Go through your house and look at all the bits and such. Clean off the shelves and clean the shelves - nice and fresh. Now gather all those priceless items that make you happy. Group them - by texture, material, color, shape. Now put them back on the shelves in their new groups. See, now you have a collection and not just stuff!
Lots of books? Read them all? Flip them around for a serene oasis of cream paper. More relaxing than all of those colors and words shouting at you.
Little tasks, fairly big impact on your environment. Now it's time for some wine and bare footin' around the house. Welcome summer.

Valentines Day is just around the corner! Spice up the house by adding candles for "just because" romantic nights. Use old jars, shells, glasses, even cans - whatever you have to hold tealights. Place on the mantel, use a cakestand on the table and smother it with tealights in white, red or clear containers, and add a scented candle where you sit together in the evenings - something spicy that will appeal to your lovey. The day of love doesn't have to be just on the 14th - any day will do! Get cozy, light some candles and enjoy your evening!

Happy New Year! Happy new home? As you take down the holiday decor and clean things up, try rearranging to refresh your space! Switch up the artwork, all those things on the bookshelves or mantel, rugs, drapes.... Add some fresh flowers! Keep it light and bright to maximize the daylight of winter but keep it cozy too for those chilly days. Need help? First rain of the season... time for candles to warm things up! Maybe a faux fur or knitted pillow for the couch, perhaps something with sequins for a little holiday bling! A bit of rearranging for the holidays to accommodate the tree and a few extra friends around the fire celebrating the season. Freshen up the guest room with extra blankets or a bright white comforter cover to enhance the lingering light of Fall. No matter how small or big your home is, it can always find room to raise a glass with a friend or two. Host a little holiday party, tidy up the place, put out some cheese and hearty bread like pumpernickel or whole grain, serve a nice rich wine, maybe a Chardonnay or Vouvray for the white wine lovers, a tasty Zin, Syrah or fat Cab for the red lovers. It doesn't have to be elaborate, just has to show some love! Cheers!

Shake it up! Rearrange the living room, maybe switch the living and dining rooms? It's time for summer entertaining, make your home more open and light with lots of seating whether it's at the table or around the bbq. Make it light and bright. Rearranging furniture is free! Use what you have, only better!

Brrrr! Warmed up the living room with some sheepskins thrown over the leather club chairs. A faux fur throw on the bed. Feeling lodge-y!

Looking forward to changing things up for Fall when the weather starts to turn, but it's full summer right now with 90+ temps! Right now it's about using all of the outdoor "rooms" for relaxing and entertaining.
