Basement Design Tip
Especially with a low ceiling height, we like to design with an open ceiling and just paint the entire ceiling matte black. That includes the framing, pipes, wires, light fixtures...etc. This eliminates the need to frame down to enclose lower hanging items while giving the space a feeling of extra height as the ceiling "disappears" a bit. Commercial spaces and restaurants often do their ceiling this way. This particular basement is only 6' 6" from flooring to the joist framing and the radiator pipes drop to less than six feet. This new room will be used as a guest area and compact gym/workout room.
