Blephilia ciliata, commonly known as Downy Wood Mint, is similar to Bee Balm, but with less spreading! Downy Wood Mint can thrive in almost any medium to dry-soil garden that receives 20% or more sun per day making it a good fit for most gardens. With blooms in late spring to mid-summer, this perennial is a favorite of native bees. I have plugs available now for $2.50 each.

Meehan's Mint is an adaptable ground cover for shade that can tolerate the range of soil moistures. And like all plants that tolerate dry soil, this will also grow well (and look great) spilling out of a container! While it is stoloniferous, sending out long stems, it is not aggressive. I'll have plugs available this week for $3.25 each.

Meehan's Mint (Meehania cordata), 6-10 in tall, part-full shade, moist to dry soil, deer resistant, native to parts of PA.

I have a few plants now that I'm carrying specifically because they bloom well into November! Plant them now to get blooms this year. All three of these are deer resistant as well.

-Brown Eyed Susan (Rudbeckia triloba), 2-3 feet tall, part-full sun, moist to dry soil, will reseed, locally native, available now in plugs ($2.50).
-Brown Eyed Susan (Rudbeckia triloba 'Prairie Glow'), 2-3.5 feet tall, full sun, average to moist soil, will reseed, locally native, available in pots ($4 or $6).
-Aromatic Aster (Aster oblongifolius 'Twilight Sky') 3-4 feet tall, part-full sun, moist to dry soil, native to parts of PA, MD, available in quart pots for $7 each.

I grew a lot of Swamp Milkweed from seed this year and I need you to come buy it before the monarchs find it! Of course it's a good thing for their caterpillars to eat it, but somehow no one wants to buy them if all the foliage is munched! I have plugs available for $2.50 and 4" pots available now for $4 each.

Monarch caterpillars can only eat foliage of Asclepias plants, commonly known as Milkweeds, so it's really important that we all have some of these in our gardens. It's a great deer resistant plant too since the toxic milky sap has a bitter taste that deters most animals.

Details: Swamp Milkweed (Asclepias incarnata), 3-5 feet tall, part-full sun, average to moist soil, deer resistant, locally native.

I have an extra full flat of 72 plugs of Packera aurea, commonly known as Golden Ragwort, available for $160. Or I can split it in half... 36 plugs for $80. Let me know if you're interested.

This plant has become very popular due to having evergreen foliage and for it's ability to compete with invasives. With it's bright spring blooms, shade tolerance, deer resistance, and evergreen foliage, Golden Ragwort is a great low-maintenance replacement for English ivy or non-native pachysandra.

It also serves as a host plant for at least 17 species of moths and butterflies and provides nectar for specialist bees and other early-spring pollinators. If you find Golden Ragwort to be too aggressive, you may want to cut back the flower stalks before the plant goes to seed.

-Golden Ragwort (Packera aurea), 12-18 in tall flowers (foliage around 6-8 in tall), part-full shade, average to moist soil, deer resistant, locally native.

My yarrows are starting to bloom now! Achillea millefolium is an easy plant to grow in a full sun garden and these two cultivars are more behaved than the white straight species. The delicate looking foliage grows very densely and is good for blocking out weeds.

Details:
-Pink: Achillea 'Oertel's Rose', 12-15 in tall, full sun, average to dry soil, deer resistant. I'll have plugs in early July.
-Red: Achillea 'Paprika', 1.5-2 feet tall, full sun, dry, average to dry soil, deer resistant. Available now in 4" pots for $4 each.
