Don’t plant your dahlias yet… grab these 4 things first.

These are the four things I always recommend having ready before your tubers go in the ground:

1. Plant stakes
Add your stake at the time of planting, not later. Dahlia tubers are fragile, and trying to stake after they’ve started growing can damage the tuber or root system. This gives your plants the support they’ll need once they’re full and blooming.

2. Twine or plant ties
As your dahlias grow, gently secure them to the stake every 8–12 inches. This keeps stems from snapping in wind or under the weight of blooms (especially for larger varieties).

3. Bone meal (1 tablespoon per hole)
Bone meal is a great source of phosphorus, which supports strong root development and flower production. Just a tablespoon in each planting hole is enough to give your tubers a healthy start.

4. Plant tags (don’t skip this!)
Trust me… Labeling at planting saves you from guessing later, especially if you’re growing multiple varieties.

We are very ready for spring over here, so I made the sweetest little tulip arrangement with just a few simple ingredients. 🌷

Locally grown tulips, apple tree branches from my neighbor’s fruit tree trimmings, and a few sprigs of curly willow for a little movement.

I’ve also been on the hunt for a vintage cabbage vase or soup tureen for flower arranging and haven’t found the right one yet. But when I spotted this cabbage-inspired pot , I couldn’t leave it behind. I think it all came together so cute!

Sometimes it’s just seasonal flowers, a few branches from the yard, and a vessel that makes you smile. 😊

March always feels like the garden waking up again, and we are very excited for spring around here!

February felt like the bridge between winter rest and spring planning. A month filled with seed catalogs, sugar cookies, garden dreaming, birthday parties, dahlia tubers, cozy kitchen recipes, and lots of gratitude for this little flower-filled life.

If you want armloads of dahlias this summer, check out these varieties!

☀️Cornel Bronze
A true workhorse with depth and richness that’s hard to replicate. The warm bronze tones read beautifully in late summer palettes and pair especially well with blush, cream, and muted greens.
For growers, this one is dependable and productive. Expect sturdy stems and a steady flush of blooms through the season. If you’re building a fall-leaning bouquet line, this is a foundational variety.

🌸Coralie
Soft, romantic, and incredibly versatile. Coralie bridges the gap between formal event work and cottage garden charm. The color works across so many design palettes.
She produces generously and keeps blooming when regularly harvested, making her a strong option for both cut flower growers and home gardeners.

🌸Caitlin’s Joy
Bright, raspberry color and so cheerful. This is one of those varieties that instantly lifts a bouquet.
She’s vigorous, productive, and reliable. For farmers, she adds energy to market bunches. For home gardeners, she provides consistent color that doesn’t fade into the background. If you want a dahlia that earns its space in the garden, this one does.

☀️Sun Spot
True to its name, Sun Spot brings warmth and saturation. It holds up well in summer heat and continues to push blooms when properly cut and deadheaded.
This is a smart choice if you’re looking for strong color impact and steady production. Stake early and give it room, healthy plants and abundant stems.

🌸Hillcrest Suffusion
A peachy toned variety that shines in summer bouquet palettes.
It produces generously and adds texture that elevates arrangements without overpowering them.

Variety: Tahoma Little One ✨

This is a very cute little blushy pink dahlia! Loved her this season. Lighter in color earlier in the season, then more pink tones later in the season (like these pictures).

It can’t get much easier than that. This is one of my favorite ways to bring a little spring indoors! Forcing bulbs inside over the winter is so simple and instantly gives life to your home.

They don’t all need to be unicorns to have a space in your garden.

These are tried and true varieties that I would recommend to anyone who is new to growing dahlias or wants to try dahlias for the first time.
