I’ve climbed the creaky wooden spines of these leviathan conifers and hardwoods here in the PNW for almost a decade. I’ve watched bald eagles wheeling through the morning mist. I’ve looked down, from a crooked tree stretched out over a cliff face, into a shimmering shoal of fish, darting uncertainly in the shallows of the San Juan Islands. I’ve encountered squeaking baby squirrels, squawking baby birds and hissing evil raccoons in the canopy.
I’ve made good friends from whom I have learned so much about trees and life. I’ve made some minor mistakes (clipped gutters, broken fence panels, etc) with the same outcome.
I have an even deeper respect for military personnel, as my last (4) employees have all been army reservists. I hope they consider me their battle buddies as we have fought treacherous terrain and trees together.
I’ve very much enjoyed working in the treetops of the PNW as a TreeHugger. Sadly, if you weren’t already aware, we have wound down operations here in the PNW and are pursuing other opportunities.
I’m so thankful for all of my amazing customers and friends I’ve developed over the years through arboriculture. Thank you for allowing me and my crew to take care of your trees these past seven years.

Best regards,

Joel

Summer is on the way. Nice weather means more time outdoors. While you’re out, take a look at your trees. Better yet, have them looked at by an ISA Certified Arborist. Many pests and diseases can be treated, preventing the need for removal or replacement. We provide no-cost estimates for all your tree care needs.

In addition to pruning, cabling, and bracing, we are licensed to apply: Tree growth regulators, organic pesticides, fungicides, and more!

In light of the current crisis that our community is facing, and in keeping with the stay-at-home order issued by Governor Inslee this evening, our business is having to make some difficult decisions. Although we believe we provide valuable services to our clients, we have decided to restrict business to only those services deemed “essential.” The ISA and TCIA have released a joint-statement defining what should be considered “essential” tree care services, however this statement has not yet been adopted officially by the state and so we will suspend all business until we are certain that we can be in compliance. We will be paying our crew two weeks of paid leave so that they can stay home and be healthy. We appreciate you supporting our business and deeply regret our inability to provide services at this time.

Please stay home so that we can all be back to work sooner.

A friendly reminder from PlantAmnesty. There are plenty of ways to improve your view without topping your trees.

We received this photo from a concerned citizen and wanted to remind you why topping trees is not the way to go.

1. It doesn't work - trees have a genetically pre-determined size, they will continue to grow until they hit it. Topping will not make your trees smaller.

2. It's expensive - once you top a tree, you will have to keep topping it to "keep it in its place". Topping creates a "hydra effect" cut of one head, get several more (rinse and repeat).

3. It's ugly.

4. It's dangerous - the new growth that comes from topping is not strong, opens the tree up to decay, removes vital leaves that the tree uses to photosynthsize, makes the tree top heavy and more likely to blow over in a storm.

5. It makes you look bad - You may top a tree to create a water view, but you should know that you have some friends and neighbors-who probably won't say so because they are being tactful-who see a view of a butchered tree with water in the background.

TREES ARE THE VIEW.
