PREPARING MORINGA TREES FOR WINTER

A few weeks ago all the leaves were harvested and we left some of the drumsticks to mature. We later came back and harvested rest of drumsticks and begin preparing the Moringa trees for winter. We cut back the trees to various heights from 6 inches above ground to 3 feet and heavily mulched area to protect base of tree and tap root from any of our Texas winter freezes. Now we just wait for Spring and remove mulch. From our experience last year each tree should produce 4 or 5 new shoots that will sprout up from Tap root, provided it does not freeze or rot from too much moisture. ( Cut way back on watering during cooler months )

These Moringa Trees were started from seed and planted in early April at Rusty Rock Ranch and harvested through out the year with one major cut back in July and they still grew 12 to 14 feet in height and produced hundreds of drumsticks. (Zone 8b) It always helps to have a Longhorn as a guardian to protect your crop.

We have thousands of Moringa seedlings and young trees available for those that would like to start a Moringa Farm or crop for next spring. Contact www.moringaofamerica.com for help getting started,

Thanks for the reply.
My situation- we have a ranch and we had a baby deer we had to take care of, he contracted serious infection in his eyes that took his sight , after 3 rounds of antibiotics with no improvement, the vet suggested we put him down. I stopped treatment and began to give him 1tsp of powder in his bottle every day, he began to thrive and the infection came out of his eyes and he regained partial sight, fast forward- we weaned him from bottle at 5 months and he’s not getting his controlled dose anymore and the cloudiness is coming back into one eye , so I’m going to have to find a way to incorporate the powder into his dry food and make sure he’s the only one eating it.. I was just trying to be able to give him a proper dose, hence the reason I asked about oil. I’m thankful to have found moringa, I truly believe the moringa is healing his eyes and helping us also and I’m going to continue using..
thank you for what you do
Just wanted you to know about this testimony about our baby deer,
J. Butler

Our Moringa harvest today with our local homesteader member Rusty Rock Ranch (East Texas)

Working together as a community we were able to harvest moringa plants, sort out the premium leaves, clean and begin processing into tea-cut leaves and powder. Half of the harvest was bundled together to naturally air dry. With only a fan circulating air and our dry Texas weather the bundles were able to dry in 24 hours to process into Fresh Tea-cut leaves. The other half of the harvest was immediately washed and placed into a freezer dryer to make our Moringa Powder. Our new method of processing using a freeze dryer will help prevent nutrient loss from traditional methods of processing along with other advantages that freeze drying offers.

This Moringa plot was started in in mid April and in less than 90 days we were able to do our first harvest with at least 2 more harvests before the end of the season. This small community of 4 people spent less then 6 hours of labor 4 hours planting the moringa and less than 2 hours harvesting. We encourage more small communities to come together to fully enjoy all the benefits Moringa has to offer along with having a positive effect of bringing people together.

Easiest way to grow Moringa for maximum leaf production. We started by using an insulated 2 foot high panels to make a rasied bed frame (40 inches x 16 feet long). Filled it with organic matter sticks and leaves and then topped it off with a Sandy Loam and added an high quality organic soil mix, 1lb of organic worm castings, and some Alaskan Fish emulsion. This mixture was very successful in providing all the nutrients for the Moringa to thrive. We then planted about 150 Moringa seeds and seedlings every 6 inches apart. As you can see in 6 weeks we were able to harvest 15lbs of fresh Moringa leaves and in another 2 weeks we will be able to do another harvest from the planted seeds. The purpose of this experiment was to provide two layers of Moringa to double our harvest production in a small area. Now we can harvest every 2 to 3 weeks, One harvest from the seedlings and another from the seed grown Moringa alternating each set.

Another advantage of the growing Moringa in a controlled raised bed is we are able to control some of the weather elements. By adding a simple hoop top we can protect the Moringa from extreme UV.s, high winds from thunderstorms, and excess rainfall by either using a shade cloth or plastic as needed. The Insulated panel purpose is to keep the soil at a more reasonable constant temperature and most of all to protect the tap root from freezing in our Texas winters.

On Friday we got to participate in a great and awesome community of Bridgeport Texas and the Bridgeport Elementary School. Thanks to all of our customers who support Moringa of America we were able to donate over 500 Moringa plants to every child and teacher to learn more about this amazing plant. After spending all day with the teachers, I was astonished and amazed of the dedication it takes to be a elementary teacher everyday. Always support your local teachers and most of all thank them for what they do.
