PREPARING MORINGA TREES FOR WINTER
A few weeks ago all the leaves were harvested and we left some of the drumsticks to mature. We later came back and harvested rest of drumsticks and begin preparing the Moringa trees for winter. We cut back the trees to various heights from 6 inches above ground to 3 feet and heavily mulched area to protect base of tree and tap root from any of our Texas winter freezes. Now we just wait for Spring and remove mulch. From our experience last year each tree should produce 4 or 5 new shoots that will sprout up from Tap root, provided it does not freeze or rot from too much moisture. ( Cut way back on watering during cooler months )
These Moringa Trees were started from seed and planted in early April at Rusty Rock Ranch and harvested through out the year with one major cut back in July and they still grew 12 to 14 feet in height and produced hundreds of drumsticks. (Zone 8b) It always helps to have a Longhorn as a guardian to protect your crop.
We have thousands of Moringa seedlings and young trees available for those that would like to start a Moringa Farm or crop for next spring. Contact www.moringaofamerica.com for help getting started,
