LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE - Craig Reynolds was a fine artist and then a landscape architect. That combination of art and science is at the heart of each garden. The completed gardens seamlessly integrate the hardscape and softscape, making them look as if they were always there. To achieve this whole experience, Craig prefers to design everything from the 'doors out.' In addition to the overall plant

ing design, this includes hardscape elements such as the pool, spa, trellis and arbors, patios and decks, fountains and landscape lighting. All of which is set within a framework of native plants and indigenous materials to complete the experience. Each garden is unique; born of the individual site - the architecture - and the owners requirements. From there, Craig develops an overall conceptual design which also serves as the basis for a preliminary cost estimate. Changes and adjustments are then incorporated into a final set of construction documents which serve as the organized “blueprints” for bidding, permitting and implementation. During implementation of the design Craig provides project administration services to ensure the success of each project. History:

Designing small spaces in Key West is all about balance. Every square foot counts, with the goal of creating a space that feels open, relaxed, and connected to island living. A refined tropical palette, layered textures, and a thoughtfully placed pool can transform even a compact courtyard into a private retreat.

One of the best ways to create visual interest is not simply by grouping different plant species, but by layering foliage with contrasting leaf sizes, shapes, and colors. These subtle variations add depth, movement, and texture, making the landscape feel larger and more dynamic.

A well designed garden is never just about the plants. It is about the experience of moving through the space and the way a garden path quietly guides your eye from one moment to the next. The most timeless gardens feel effortless as though they have always belonged to the land itself.

Every curve, texture, and transition should create a sense of discovery while maintaining harmony with the surrounding environment. A thoughtfully designed garden path invites you to slow down, explore, and connect with the landscape in a way that feels natural and intentional.

The best outdoor spaces never compete with nature they work with it creating gardens that feel grounded, balanced, and enduring.

Designing small spaces in Key West is always an exercise in balance. Every inch matters and the goal is to create something that feels open, calm, and deeply connected to the way people actually live outdoors here. A restrained tropical palette, layered textures, and a compact pool can completely transform a courtyard into a private retreat without overwhelming the space.

These projects prove that less tropical can still feel lush and inviting. Clean lines, softer planting, and thoughtful material choices create a more timeless atmosphere that works beautifully with the architecture and the climate.

And these tiles are everything. The texture, the tone, the way they catch the light against the water and surrounding landscape completely elevates the space. They bring depth, warmth, and just the right amount of character to a small garden design.

Somewhere in the Florida Keys, this area was once planned as a parking spot, but now it tells a very different story, one shaped by water, light, and a softened tropical garden that feels as though it has always belonged.

A garden path winding through lush, tropical foliage leads you there gradually, palms swaying, layers of green unfolding, textures shifting underfoot, and a well planned seating area inviting you to pause along the way. Then suddenly, the water appears. Still, reflective, almost mirroring the sky.

It’s not just about the pool itself, but the perspectives it creates, looking out from the water toward the garden, or back toward the path you arrived on. Every angle is intentional, the landscape is guiding your eye without you realizing it.

A small moment of calm, that was almost a parking.

There is something about shaping a place where people gather around a table under the open sky. Dining alfresco in a garden setting brings a certain ease to the experience, where the setting becomes just as memorable as the meal. The way a path draws you in, the way shade settles just enough to invite you to stay longer, the quiet balance between planting and paving that makes everything feel effortless.

Outdoor dining is not just about tables and chairs. It is about atmosphere, movement, and comfort. It is about how light filters through leaves in the late afternoon and how the air feels as conversations stretch into the evening.

Every detail matters. Spacing that allows for privacy while still feeling open and inviting, offering subtle glimpses of what waits just around the corner. The rhythm of greenery that frames moments without overwhelming them.

Good spaces do not announce themselves loudly. They simply make you want to sit and linger.

There is something about a hammock stretched right across a porch in a tropical garden that feels completely natural. From a design perspective, it shifts the porch from being just a pass through space into the main destination. Instead of looking out at the garden, you are suspended in it, with the structure of the porch giving just enough frame to the looseness beyond.
The garden itself should support that feeling without competing with it. Layered palms, soft edges, and big leaf plants create a backdrop that moves with the breeze and filters the light. From the hammock, you notice how the shadows drift across the porch floor, how the greenery feels close but not crowded. The design becomes less about what you see and more about what you experience while lying there.
It is a simple move, but a smart one. Placing the hammock on the porch uses what is already built and turns it into something more intentional. The porch provides shade and structure, the garden brings in texture and movement, and the hammock ties the two together into a space that feels easy, lived in, and very much of its place.

A thoughtfully designed garden does more than enhance beauty. It elevates curb appeal, introduces a sense of refinement, and can even increase a home’s overall value.

For this project, our clients wanted a private, tranquil retreat that maximized every inch of a smaller footprint. Layered elements like a cascading water feature and an outdoor shower were intentionally integrated to bring both function and a sense of quiet luxury to the space, creating an experience that feels expansive despite its scale.

Water features play a vital role in shaping that experience. The sound of moving water naturally creates a calming atmosphere while helping to soften unwanted noise from nearby surroundings. At the same time, they introduce movement and visual intrigue, elevating the overall design and lending a more refined, thoughtfully curated presence to the space.

From intimate outdoor rooms to sweeping site plans, from planting details to paths, walls, and yes, even docks that meet the water with intention. Every project is about how people move, gather, and connect with the land. If it shapes the outdoors, I’m interested in designing it.
