I was going to post this to stories but it ended up defaulting to a post and then I was like why not? It will be interesting to have this on my feed.
Soā¦these are before and after photos of what the Village of Kinderhook did yesterday.
Iām have pretty mixed feelings about losing the trees. Just an FYI, these are not my trees. They are in the Village right of way and were probably planted by the town decades ago and were obviously never maintained. Therefore, they grew to an enormous size, into the utility lines, causing several electric outages (4 just this year on our street) and also damaging the adjacent sidewalk.
Maintenance wise, they were a pain in the butt for meā¦they drop acorns like crazy, shed leaves twice a year and I canāt grow any landscaping in the front of my house except moss because of the enormous amount of shade that they cast.
Well, thereās the bad stuff.
The good stuff was that they were really PRETTY and I enjoyed the shade regardless of the moss š. They also helped disguise those ugly power lines. Now Iām bald over here!
The Village will be putting in a new municipal water main system, along with a new road and new sidewalks. Sometimes you have to let go of things that do not work in order to get improvements. The town is offering to replant the trees. It will not be the same oak trees thankfully but something that will not interfere in the new infrastructure. I have some time to think about it but Iām not sure yet. What would you do? I worry about them getting too big again? Who is in charge of maintenance? I donāt have the answers yet
