Who is the best companion plant? We think it’s marigolds. They bloom early & often, don’t need a lot of space and are a pollinator favorite. But what about a companion plant’s companion? That’s where a Kelp Pot comes in. A good companion supports the roots. They provide nutrients and get out of the way when they’ve been outgrown.

Are you still growing plants in plastic? What if we told you there was a better option for plants, people AND the planet?

(Part 1) Have you used a biodegradable container that didn’t break down? Ultimately stunting the growth of your plant at the end of the season? We have too, and that’s why we created Kelp Pots. The roots grow through the walls even before the pot breaks down. This allows for light air pruning and a more robust roots system. And we know that more roots = more fruits = more shoots.

Succulents are a cheat code for free plants. But sometimes they need a lil grooming to look their best.

Throwback to some of our earliest experiments with kelp pots. Look at how many more tomatoes you can grow when you don’t use plastic!

So freakin’ excited to see our budding company included in this recent article alongside startups rethinking everything from construction waste to energy systems to circular manufacturing.

We’re all approaching different problems, but there’s a shared spirit underneath it 👉 belief that “how it’s always been done” isn’t good enough anymore.

In our case, that just happens to involve seaweed and questioning why plants grow in plastic. 🌊

Big thanks to GeekWire, Lisa Stiffler, and the CoMotion team for supporting scrappy ideas with big ambitions.

Every gardener has this same thing in common… Be honest, how many do you have???

Are you starting your garden from seed this year? But you’re sick and tired of the plastic piles of waste that comes along with gardening?

We are too! That’s why we’re breaking up with plastic and using Kelp Pots instead. They make growing plants from seed super easy, plus you get heartier plants without the plastic. WINNING!

A kelp pot doesn’t have to be buried outside to break down. And Yes, your plant grows just fine even before the pot walls have decomposed.

We’re genuinely honored to be featured by in a story about rethinking how we grow.

But what we loved most about this piece wasn’t seeing our name in print. It was being included alongside a much bigger conversation: What happens when people start questioning the materials we’ve normalized around our food, soil, and gardens?

Plastic pots have been treated as disposable for decades. This article explores why small shifts, even something as simple as a seed-starting pot, can ripple outward into healthier plants, less waste, and more regenerative systems.

Pretty surreal seeing this little seaweed experiment of ours framed this way.

Huge thanks to Andrew Engelson and The Tyee for telling these kinds of stories.

(And if you’ve ever wondered why we’re so obsessed with kelp… the full article dives into it 🌊)
