We excel at combining contextual design with modern building science and passive principles. For this mountain house in Windham, we referenced historical mountain cabin precedents with choices like rusticated stone, rough hewn timber, and pitched windows on the gable ends. Then, we paired that we a series of Passive interventions, drawing from Michael Lockwood's experience as a Certified Passive House consultant. We reimagined this primary residence in West Park, from the inside out. Original details like the historic stone hearths and wide plank flooring stayed. New spaces like the primary bedroom and bath were designed to take full advantage of their treetop views.

Lockwood Architecture’s founder, Michael Lockwood, is a PHIUS certified Passive House consultant. Typically, that means combining contextual design with next-generational building science on new homes and commercial spaces.

But, in the case of our project in Lake Katrine, our sustainability strategy was to retain and honor what was already there. We underwent a complete historic renovation, returning this stone and clapboard farmhouse back to its former glory.

Experience is everything in space design.

Whether it's a home, restaurant, or hotel, defining a coherent design perspective that carries through in every detail is what makes "another building" feel like "an important place."

Yes, it's just an ice cream shop.

And, yes, it's pulling on the heart strings of nostalgia.

But, our design for turned an under-utilized lot in Saugerties into a beloved local landmark. That's a result of smart programmatic planning and attention to detail, inside and out.

One of the easiest ways to practice sustainable design is by using what’s already there.

In the case of our Kingston Transitional home, we seamlessly merged the old with the new.

The existing cottage was ravaged by fire and needed to be completely reimagined.

We retained the existing stone structure and retrofit it to meet modern building science goals. Then, paired it with a modern expansion that celebrated the historic story of the home, but brought it up to contemporary standards.

Before we started work on this project in Accord on Mettacahonts Road, an existing driveway and retention pond was in place, setting up the basic site plan for the property.

Our design approach took advantage of the site orientation, and creating views of the surrounding forest and the pond.

The great room features a full height vaulted ceiling, a soaring fireplace, and is lined with windows on both sides.

In equal parts, we focused on design and sustainability for this Hudson Valley home.

At the spatial scale, architects play with volume, light and air to create a sense of space.

Zooming in to the details, the architect’s design palette is made up of form, pattern, and texture to create a desired mood.

At our project for , we create interior spaces that are highly-stylized, moody vignettes. They’re cinematic and deliver an immersive experience for guests of this remarkable rental property.

How do you merge an addition with the existing home’s architecture and finish styling?

Our project in Woodstock, NY is a two-story addition plus garage for an existing home. We paid special care to knit the new with the old, creating a coherent home design that feels like it was always meant to be this way.
