The difference between these two bouquets?
1. One is from my backyard and the other is from a florist.
2. $65
This isn’t a post to throw shade at florists by any means, because I know the going price of bulk market flowers, that they need to compensate for time to make bouquet, the vase, the delivery, so on. This post is more a realization for myself, so that maybe one day I will actually give myself credit where it’s due.. I start all my plants from seed, in MARCH, tending to them for months, to finally see them blooming, some not until August! And then I usually give away more flowers than I sell every year, maybe making up the difference in DIY Buckets for weddings and events.
Am I selling myself short right now? Absolutely, I am sure I am, I know my bouquets are worth more, and that I could sell them for more money. But I fully believe in keeping my prices lower regardless, so others can enjoy them and not be restricted by a price point, because flowers are by all means a luxury item. No one needs a bouquet of flowers for their table.
Right now this is not my main form of income, so I can do this, but I would love to start at least breaking even every season, small goals! Eventually I would love for agriculture (flowers, veggies, and our own raised and harvested meat) to be a main form of income for my family, but right now, flowers are just a very big passion project of mine with some big goals. So my prices will increase one day, but right now I will try to keep them low and as reasonable as I can.
Right now we are having one of the worst gardening/growing seasons in years, topping last year, flowers are struggling to come in full flushes, making it hard to get more than just a bouquet full every few days. I am SO thankful that this isn’t my main source of income, so please, when possible, support local agriculture, because it’s rough out here. 🫶🏻 💐 💕
