J3 Architects LLC Architectural services Over the years, he has established a network of positive relationships with engineers, contractors, and building departments.

Neil Jorgensen operates J3 Architects from northern King County with a passion for architecture and a compilation of more than thirty years of experience in the field. His enthusiasm for the art of architecture runs deep. Neil's interest in architecture started in Illinois during his junior year at Glenbrook South High School. Through winning a high school design competition, his house was selecte

d and built by the students the following school year. With that experience, Neil was able to secure a drafting job with two local architects directly out of high school. He continued this employment there throughout his college years at the University of Illinois in Chicago. The highlight of college for Neil was a year studying abroad in Versailles, France, at a French school of architecture located in the Petite Stables of Chateau de Versailles, including a one-week sketching trip based out of Florence, Italy. He returned to the United States with a wealth of experience, and he soon graduated with a five-year professional degree, a Bachelor of Architecture in Structures (1994). After graduation, Neil moved to Seattle, Washington, to pursue a job opportunity with a modular home builder. Two years later he gained employment at The Healey Alliance Architects, where he worked for nine and a half years. Neil became licensed in 2005 and subsequently began J3 Architects as a side business while working at the Murray Franklyn Family of Companies and, more recently, Terrene Ventures. After a brief partnership with architect Ron Healey in 2014, Neil moved over full time to J3 Architects. Neil began J3 Architects to continue his experience with remodeling existing homes and grew it from there. He welcomes the challenges of blending old and new in his additions and remodels. A favorite project of his, a home he designed in the Issaquah Highlands (Harrison Street, lot 4), represents his other joy, the pleasure of creating new space. Neil's passion combines with his lifetime of experience to produce high-quality buildings around the Seattle area.

I had a design (collaboration) meeting with our favorite interior designer, Ashley Stiles and she took this picture posting on her timeline. Sharing again as It is great to see what my clients see as we work together though a collaborative design meeting! Ashley and I have had a few of these in the past, but 99% of the time I am collaborating directly with the homeowner. During a design meeting we start with the existing floor plan and work through the design together based on the project requirements. In the attached image, all the white lines are walls which we talked through the placement and design in an hour and a half meeting. Typically in a two hour meeting we can work through most addition designs and some new house designs. It really is an amazing fun process!

Construction progress on a house we designed in Seattle. Exciting to see that entry volume! We definitely had to get creative with the framing layouts- both roof and floors. Can’t wait to see it completed!

Though the boathouse design was the prominent feature in the development, my role was small in the overall project scope. The credit goes to the City of Kenmore for bringing rowing to the community. Thankful to be a part of the project and love how everything turned out!

I hope to post as many before/after snips of the result of a 2 hour design meeting as possible. I had one client refer to this meeting as a design collaboration meeting, which is a much better description of what we do. We collaborate on designing- we talk and I draw. These are so much fun especially when the client is engaged and excited.

This one was from a couple weeks ago. I actually turned this project down initially as I really did not like the existing design done by another designer and I did not know how fixed they were on some of the components.

As with most clients, there is a budget and with this one the scope of work is to stay as much as possible within the footprint of the house. Included is a snip of the other design which has many components that don't work. By adding a small entry addition we were able to pull circulation out of the living space and also define and entry space. The small cantilever added in the master completely changed the layout. Every wall, door and window is talked through with the homeowner.

I am always amazed and blessed to see the results of a collaborative design meeting. I love when the clients come excited, prepared and communicative. In 2 hours we started with a blank site and designed the first floor of a 3,000s.f. house.
