Having fun with walnut.
We took this chunk of black walnut off the dirt in the woods and turned it into a very large and heavy table top. Fastened it to a few pyramids of oak, and there we go.

For seats, we had a few extra timbers left over. Attached them to some scraps of beams from the room and we can check those off of the list. The 8 foot benches are also heavy, complimenting the heaviness of the table.

Into the realm of curved decks. This was a great challenge but it got done and looks incredible. The tree was a bit of a bummer, but that can always be fixed. The structure of the deck held up like it was meant to. We didn’t quite figure on the falling timber from 30’, however, we passed the test. The railing, some deck boards and the pool did not.

I was asked if I could add a screen porch to this home for some enjoyment of the backyard minus the bugs. Sure, that is definitely on the list! This is a 14 x 14 setup. Perfect for the spring - fall outdoor seasons. Complete with a custom made wooden screen door for that slamming screen door authenticity.

Some of the details. Azek trim board, and decking. 8” ship lap ceiling . Screen Eze screening system with better-vue fiberglass screen.

This ramp eased the access to the inside of the house for the client and their guests. The client provided me with a beautiful plan drawing of what they wanted, I am quite confident that we delivered. Besides the extremely sticky clay, this project went beautifully.

People sometimes ask if we build decks. Well, yes, we do build decks. The decks we happen to build all have their own special features.

This one for instance. Round pool round deck. Only makes sense right? We made this so that there were no weird board intersections involved. Unfortunately the only way this one could be accomplished was to use wood material. I don’t know that PVC or Composite would be able to be cut like this and still be able to withstand the elements. Maybe we will try on the next one.

Wine storage anyone?

We have recently completed a wine cellar storage unit. These are made of 1” yellow pine, with a simple clear coat finish. They look absolutely awesome, they will age well, and one could nearly park a truck on top. The can also store a lot of wine. If the math is correct, nearly 750 bottles.

Some things that are done here are kinda cool. This time around we have a very, very large mirror over a fireplace mantle. The 18’ of ceiling space led to a super large frame, which was faux painted to match the mantle.

In the end, with plenty of help to accomplish the goal. The end result came out awesome.

Here is a little get away cabin secluded deep in the woods. The daily challenge of working away from the normality of having things like accessible electricity, easy access to lumber, nails, batteries, and the forgotten tools was all overcome and the project moved forward to a very neat little place of solitude.

Interior finish is yet to come. Early 2022. The selected trees were removed from the property and are currently being milled for the interior walls, ceilings, doors, and trim. Logs have been selected for timber ladders, railings, and decor. Once the wood stove is installed, we will have no issues getting away on a cold winters week and spending a few days making the place what it was meant to be. Stay tuned there is more to come.

We are still on the bridge kick. This time more for utilitarian type use. When we are asked to build things like this, as a general rule we like to add the Hardwood Unlimited flair. The interconnected 2x12 offers not only major stability of the floor of the bridge, its easy on the eyes as well.
