Not really my specialty here, but I got a request to check out a tiller that had not seen the light of day for quite a while. According to the owner, it had been running like a dream before, but now would just pull and pull without attempting to start.
Once I had it loaded up and taken back to the shop, I began troubleshooting. The engine would only attempt to start when I applied starting fluid and the choke fully shut.
That led me straight to suspecting problems with the fuel delivery system within the carburetor.
Opening the carb, I saw that the main jet was completely blocked up with deposits. After carefully cleaning all the parts in question and ensuring smooth movement, I put the carburetor back together.
Mounted it to the engine, pulled the rope, and on the second pull it started right away, no starting fluid needed.
To make sure the job was done properly, I decided to try it out by taking it for a spin around the garden. And it worked flawlessly, running like brand new.
One more piece of equipment rescued from the junkyard.

Below is a tractor bucket that was in a bad state, warped and thin steel. I cut off the cutting edge heated and straightened it then I heated and straightened the skin itself, pulled out about 3 or so inches of warping out of this old work horse.

This is what 30 years of waiting for someone to finally take action looks like.

She had the idea for decades. It just needed the right person to answer the call and bring it to life.

Over the last 2 weeks, I built these pieces and delivered them today. She absolutely loved them, and honestly, that’s the kind of job that means something. Not just metal and welds, but helping someone see a long-held dream finally standing in their yard.

Couldn’t be happier with how they turned out, and even happier to have helped make it happen.

Sometimes the best projects are more than steel.

A very kind lady reached out to me about an old wheel she had kept for years. She told me she had wanted someone to turn it into a peace sign for her yard for nearly 30 years.

I told her absolutely.

When she asked if it would fit in a sedan to bring to my shop, I said don’t worry about it, I’ll come get it myself. She lived about 45 minutes away, and when I arrived I saw just how large and heavy this wheel really was.

Originally, she only wanted the peace sign made.

Instead, I decided to go further.

I built a reinforced A-frame stand designed for real strength and longevity. Mounted the wheel on a spindle so when the wind catches it, the whole piece comes alive. I used 3/4" steel rebar for the peace sign to give it presence, depth, and durability.

Then I shaped custom wings by hand so they catch airflow properly and keep motion going even in a light breeze.

This project took engineering, creativity, and heart.

I hope after 30 years of waiting, this piece brings her joy every time the wind blows.

She also asked for a raised hanging planter so she wouldn’t have to kneel down anymore. I built that from an old scoop bucket and hay hanger. More photos coming soon.

I remember doing this like yesterday, hardest part was dealing with the wind and the cold but as far as fitment went I was very happy.
