Most new trees in Central Texas do not die from “bad luck.” They die because they were planted too deep, the roots were still circling the pot, or nobody watered the root ball the first two summers.
Soak 6–8 gallons per inch of trunk each week. Keep mulch off the trunk. Set the root flare at or just above grade.
Fall and winter are the window. If you want it done to arborist standard, we plant it and leave you a watering plan.

Most trees fail at the base. If the root flare is buried, moisture sits on the trunk, rot starts, and roots begin to girdle. We keep the flare visible at grade. That is the ISA standard.

Lion tailing is not a “clean look.” It is a pruning mistake. When the inside of the tree is stripped and leaves are left only at the tips, the limbs turn into long, heavy levers. That raises storm-breakage risk, sunscalds bark, and forces weak sprouts that cost more later. ISA Certified Arborists do not prune this way. Kyle Landscaping Services follows ANSI A300 standards: keep interior structure, thin modestly, and leave a tree that still looks like itself.
