In 1986 I received a BFA in Photography from New York University. After graduating I began working in NYC at House & Garden magazine, a Condé Nast publication, under the editorship of Anna Wintour. I continued my graphic design career there for 13 years designing for, House Beautiful magazine, Calvin Klein and North American Bear Co. In 1995 I moved to Los Angeles and began to realize how meanin
gful it was to work in the garden and decided to combine my love of design with gardening. In 2007 I began my journey learning the ins and outs of the garden design business. For the next 8 years I designed, planned and supervised the installation of all varieties of waterwise and drought tolerant gardens. In 2010 I received my Permaculture Design Certificate from Los Angeles County Arboretum and Botanic Garden. In 2015 I created Hummingbird Design, LLC to explore my voice as a Garden Designer within our California drought. It is my goal to design gardens using Native California and Mediterranean plants and succulents as many of these plants are adapted to drought and create a much needed habitat for native wildlife. Covering any bare soil with a thick layer of mulch is essential and mimics the forest floor. This all important addition allows soil to thrive and become alive and able to absorb water be it from drip irrigation, hand watering or rain. I love to create beautiful gardens that are water wise, habitat friendly, low maintenance and sustainable even within our drought.
