🏡Perched on a bluff overlooking the Mississippi River, this project begins where all exceptional outdoor spaces do…with intentional design. True design goes beyond aesthetics; it’s about creating a space that feels effortless to use. Every detail is considered: flow, sightlines, functionality, and how the space will be experienced day to day. Whether hosting gatherings or enjoying quiet moments, the space is tailored to perform beautifully in every scenario.

Given the region’s heavy clay soil, the foundation of this project requires a highly strategic approach. Clay retains moisture, which can lead to significant movement during freeze-thaw cycles. To ensure long-term performance, we engineered a system that prioritizes drainage and stability from the ground up. 🌊 🦾

We begin by carefully grading and pitching the subsoil away from both the home and patio, directing any potential moisture away from the structure. The subgrade was then compacted and reinforced with a geotextile fabric, creating a critical separation layer that prevents the base material from migrating into the soil below.

We integrate a Drive Grid stabilization system to lock the foundation in place and prevent lateral movement over time. This adds structural integrity ensures the patio remains as precise and level as the day it was installed.
Each paver will be meticulously placed, with custom cuts, refined borders, and intricate inlays bringing the design to life. Edge restraints installed for lasting definition, and joints filled polymeric sand.

The result is more than a patio…it’s a thoughtfully engineered outdoor living space, built with precision and designed to endure. Every step of the process reflects a commitment to quality, ensuring long lasting beauty without compromise.

🌒Breaking away from the ordinary and embracing the extraordinary ✨ this multi-level patio is anything but typical. Every detail was thoughtfully planned and flawlessly executed.

🦋What sets this space apart are the unique design elements that bring it to life. At Outerspace Creations, we focus on harmonizing textures, tones, patterns, bold lines, and distinctive perspectives.

🧬We are decidedly different.🧬

🧱For this project, we used large Beacon Hill slab pavers in the “Fossil” color and added visual interest with a herringbone inlay made from three shades of red Town Hall pavers. A tan Ledgestone cap with a rough face finishes the upper wall, adding both texture and contrast. Unilock

🌊The Aquascape stacked slate sphere serves as a striking focal point, drawing the eye while creating a calming, soothing sound. Aquascape Inc.

💡 We added uplighting to highlight the two existing shrubs and the newly planted pillar tree, enhancing the landscape’s depth and ambiance. Step lighting was also installed around the perimeter of the upper patio and on the composite deck step leading from the back patio doors, improving both safety and nighttime aesthetics. As well as lighting up the water feature.
