🌳Happy Arbor Day! The best time to plant a tree was 10 years ago, but today will suffice.
Art: We planned a Tulip Tree (liriodendron tulipifera), known as for its quick growth and showy Spring blooms that resemble a tulip. It is a large overstory tree with stunning golden Fall foliage.
Science: Proper planting techniques are an overlooked and vital part of a tree’s long-term success. It’s critical to dig the planting hole at least twice the width of the root ball. Containerized trees often are root bound; be sure to break up and score the root mass before planting. Also, ensure the tree’s root flare is not buried; trees are often planted too deep. Lastly, install a mulch ring that does not contact the trunk and give it plenty of water its first growing season.
