Community Awareness | New World Screwworm(TRIGGER WARNING OPEN WOUNDS)

Friends and neighbors, we want to make sure our Arkansas Valley community has accurate, up to date information about something that is actively moving closer to home right now.
What is the New World Screwworm?
New World screwworm is a parasitic fly that lays its eggs in the living tissue of warm-blooded animals, often in open wounds. The larvae feed on the host's tissue, causing wounds to deepen and expand into serious flesh damage, infection, and potentially death if not detected in time. It can affect livestock, wildlife, pets, birds, and rarely, people. It was eradicated from the United States in the 1960s. It is back.
Where is it right now?
As of June 9, 2026, there are six confirmed cases in the United States including four cattle, one goat, and one dog. The dog case was confirmed in Lea County, New Mexico on June 8, 2026. The confirmed case in Lea County sits just across our southern border. That is a day's drive. A livestock trailer, the most likely vehicle to carry an infected animal or a hitchhiking fly, makes that run routinely.
What is Colorado doing?
Colorado State Veterinarian Dr. Maggie Baldwin has put specific, enforceable rules in effect as of June 10, 2026. Here is what they actually require:
Any animal from a USDA designated Infested Zone must enter Colorado only with a Certificate for Movement from the state animal health official in the state of origin, submitted alongside a Certificate of Veterinary Inspection.
Animals must be inspected by an authorized veterinarian within five days prior to movement. Animals with open wounds must be treated with an authorized product within 14 days prior to movement. An entry permit must be requested from the Colorado State Veterinarian's Office within 48 hours of movement. Upon arrival in Colorado, animals must again be inspected by an authorized veterinarian or official.
This includes dogs and cats. All pets entering Colorado from a state with an active Infested Zone must be inspected by a veterinarian and have a Certificate of Veterinary Inspection issued within five days prior to arrival, confirming the animals were found free of any evidence of infestation. Anyone violating these rules is subject to an order to return their animals or a quarantine order. The rule runs from June 10 through October 8.
Physical checkpoints at the state line have not been activated yet. But that does not mean our community has to wait.
What can you do?
Inspect your animals daily. Look for unusual wounds, foul smelling sores, unusual behavior, or any sign of maggots near wounds or body openings, including the nose, ears, eyes, and genitalia. If you suspect a case, your first call is to the Colorado State Veterinarian's Office at 303-869-9130 or [email protected]. Isolate the animal immediately and follow the instructions the state gives you directly. Every situation may be handled differently and the state will guide you through their specific protocol. That said, it will most likely include steps along these lines:
Isolate the infected or suspected animal from the rest of the herd or household immediately
Do not move the animal off the property
Extract larvae from the wound if safely possible
Kill the larvae in a sealed container of 70% isopropyl or ethyl alcohol
Label the container and hold it for delivery to your veterinarian or state authorities for identification
Do not attempt to treat the animal yourself without veterinary guidance
Always follow the state's instructions. The steps above are general guidance only.
The Colorado Department of Agriculture is also hosting free public webinars. Demand has been high enough that the next session has been extended to 90 minutes. Register at ag.colorado.gov/NWS.

Where does HFBC stand?
At Hoarding and Forensics Bio-Cleaners Ltd, we are actively reaching out to the Colorado Department of Agriculture and CSU Extension offices to find out what role biohazard and forensic remediation professionals can play in supporting our community's response. We are far from the state's hub, and when a suspected case arises in our region the state veterinarian's office will need time to mobilize. HFBC has biohazard containment training and experience that may allow us to serve as a rapid response resource in the Arkansas Valley while the state gets boots on the ground. We do not have all the answers yet. But we are asking the questions, and we will share what we learn with this community as soon as we have it. If there is a way for HFBC to help protect our Arkansas Valley neighbors, their animals, and their properties, we will be there.
What can we do at the community level?
State measures are a starting point. The Arkansas Valley has always looked out for itself, and this situation is no different. We are asking our community to start having this conversation now, before it arrives at our doorstep.
To the feedlot operators, sale barn and auction house staff, ranchers, and ag professionals in our area: we want to hear from you. What do you need? What gaps do you see? Are there inspection protocols, communication networks, or community level safeguards that we can build together right now without waiting on state direction?
This is not about panic. It is about being the kind of community that does not wait to be told what to do. If you have ideas, resources, or concerns, bring them to the table. Comment below, reach out to us directly, or talk to your neighbors. The conversation starts here.
We will keep you updated as this situation develops. Stay informed. Stay vigilant.

Introducing the E.E.R. Initiative: Reclaiming Space, Restoring Power
What is E.E.R.?
E.E.R. stands for Empowerment & Environmental Reset. It is a specialized, trauma-informed program designed specifically for survivors of sexual assault. When a sexual assault occurs, the physical space can become a constant, painful trigger. E.E.R. is a comprehensive environmental reset that completely transforms and renews a survivor's living space after law enforcement has fully processed and released the scene, helping them return to a sanctuary focused entirely on healing, dignity, and safety.
As the owner of Hoarding & Forensics Bio-Cleaners LTD, I’ve always believed our job isn't just about cleaning environments it’s about restoring the lives of the people who live in them. Today, we are officially launching this deeply personal service for our community here in the Arkansas Valley.
This initiative comes straight from the heart. Having been a victim of sexual assault three times in my own life, I deeply understand the horrific thoughts, the heavy feelings, and the overwhelming triggers that come with this situation. While every survivor's journey is different, I know what it’s like to feel trapped by your surroundings. I want to use my business and my technical background to be a pillar of strength that survivors can lean on someone who has walked a similar dark path and made it through.
We provide:
✔️ Complete structural sanitization and forensic cleanup.
✔️ Physical room rearrangement to break the visual trauma loop.
✔️ Complete removal and destruction of old bedding, mattresses, and textiles.
✔️ $0 out-of-pocket cost to the survivor. (We bridge costs through community support, CVC, and legally pursuing criminal restitution from the suspect. The victim should never pay to reclaim their peace the perpetrator should.)
💳 HOW YOU CAN SUPPORT THE CAUSE (DONATION DETAILS):
To keep this service completely free for survivors, we are establishing a community-funded account to cover the raw costs of brand-new mattresses, fresh bedding, and emergency lodging. We are speaking with a local bank in town this coming Monday to officially set up a secure, transparent donation fund. Once the account is finalized, we will post the details on how anyone in the community can contribute directly.
🤝 WE NEED YOUR HELP TO BUILD THE NETWORK:
To make E.E.R. the strongest pillar of support possible, we cannot do it alone. We are actively looking to build local partnerships right now:
🧠 Licensed Practicing Psychologists & Trauma-Informed Therapists:
We clean the physical space, but we need a seamless, warm hand-off to professionals who can help heal the mind. If you are a mental health professional in the area and want to be part of our immediate referral network to provide critical care when survivors need it most, please reach out to me.
🛏️ Local Bedding & Mattress Businesses:
Part of the E.E.R. protocol is replacing old mattresses, pillows, and comforters with brand-new, fresh materials so survivors don't have to sleep in the same place the trauma occurred. If you own or manage a local mattress business, furniture store, or home goods shop and want to partner with us to supply these essential "Reset Kits," let's talk.
📞 24/7 EMERGENCY RESPONSE & CONTACT:
If you are a victim advocate, a local business owner, a mental health professional, or a survivor in immediate need of our assistance, please contact us directly:
☎️ Phone: 719-469-6050 (Available 24/7)
📧 Email: [email protected]
💬 Or send a direct message straight to this page.
Let’s protect our community and show survivors that they do not have to carry this burden alone.

A regular surface wipe-down won't save you from a surprise health inspection. 😳 Over time, organic matter, grease, and invisible biofilms build up in cracks and high-touch areas, creating a breeding ground for bacteria. What looks clean to the naked eye can still fail a forensic or health department audit.
Don't risk a failed inspection or forced closure. We provide rapid-response emergency compliance decontamination to keep your doors open and your customers safe. 🧼🛑

⚠️ THIS HAPPENED IN OUR COMMUNITY. YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT IT.

(Steps have been taken to remediate the situation for the homeowner)

A local homeowner hired a pest control operator to address a German Cockroach infestation. For seventeen months, someone entered that home, applied something, collected payment, and left. No invoices. No chemical disclosure. No documentation of what was used, where it was applied, or at what concentration. The homeowner trusted the process and the professional they called.
When a local cleaning service arrived at the property, their instinct told them something was wrong. They made the heavy decision to stop service and pull their equipment. The homeowner disputed that decision, believing the pest issue was under control and that the cleaning service had walked off the job without cause. Both parties believed they were right.
Later that same day, the cleaning service contacted me. They needed confirmation before they went any further. They needed to know if stopping service was the right call, and if disposing of their equipment and supplies used inside that home was necessary. I confirmed both. The homeowner, faced with that reality, needed to understand why. They asked me to inspect the property directly. That inspection answered every question with evidence that left no room for interpretation.
What that forensic inspection revealed could not have been determined by a standard walkthrough. German Cockroaches communicate and navigate using aggregation pheromones deposited in their f***l matter. These chemical trails are invisible under normal lighting, but under forensic-grade UV imaging, they map the full scope of colony activity revealing harborage zones deep inside wall voids, behind appliances, and within electrical outlets. What I documented was not a managed situation. It was a severe, active, high-density infestation with live instar nymphs present, meaning active breeding cycles were ongoing throughout the structure.
The Hidden Hazard: What the UV Light Revealed
On the property, I observed glue traps. Glue traps are a monitoring tool; they capture individual insects but do nothing to address the reproductive cycle. Proper German Cockroach remediation requires baited gel applications with insect growth regulators (IGRs) that interrupt reproduction and collapse the colony from within.
The homeowner had been told "spraying" was being performed. Under forensic UV imaging, I observed a massive, bright fluorescence across multiple surfaces. Here is what you need to know: commercial pesticides do not naturally glow under UV light.
The fact that these surfaces lit up under forensic imaging indicates a severe problem. It points to the heavy, prolonged over-application of completely unknown chemicals, formulas, or adulterated mixtures. This unknown chemical buildup was layered directly on top of dense layers of cockroach f***s and biological waste.
This created a double-edged crisis:
Pesticide Tolerance: Exposed repeatedly to sub-lethal chemical mixtures, German Cockroaches develop a rapid tolerance. The colony does not die; it adapts, becomes harder to eradicate, and continues to breed while the occupant thinks the problem is being solved.
Chemical Liability: Because the specific compounds used were completely undocumented, any licensed operator called to the property afterward would have no way of knowing what was already present in that environment. Introducing new applications without that knowledge creates a very real risk of an adverse chemical reaction between compounds that should never be combined. That is a direct health and safety liability for anyone breathing the air in that structure.
Cross-Contamination & Legal Action
The cleaning service was entirely right to stop. A vacuum or any porous equipment used in that environment cannot be decontaminated to a safe standard for reuse. German Cockroach allergens, biological pathogens, and a heavy, unknown chemical footprint pe*****te equipment in ways that standard cleaning cannot resolve. Moving that equipment to another home creates a direct cross-contamination pathway to the rest of the community.
When I cross-referenced the pest control operator through state licensing databases, there was no record. No certification. No licensure of any kind.
I compiled a complete forensic dossier including documented evidence of colony activity, harborage mapping, f***l pattern analysis, the unexplained UV chemical indicators, confirmed use of improper treatment methodology, and confirmed absence of licensure—and submitted it to the Colorado Department of Agriculture, the local public health authority, and law enforcement.
Evidence Over Emotion
The dispute that brought me to that property no longer exists. Both the homeowner and the cleaning service are victims of the same unlicensed operator. Both now have forensic evidence documenting the harm done, the health risks created, the damage to equipment, and the fraudulent nature of the services rendered. Both have a clear path to seek restitution. That is what happens when you replace emotion with evidence.
This is what forensic bio-remediation exists to do. Not just to clean a site, but to determine what actually happened, who is at risk, to what degree, and what the evidence proves. A German Cockroach colony does not stay contained; it spreads through shared walls, plumbing corridors, and equipment that moves from property to property.
If your situation does not feel right especially one involving health, safety, or a service you cannot fully verify that instinct is worth acting on. You do not need to understand forensics to know that something is wrong. Roaches are just one example of what forensic bio-remediation can uncover. Mold, bacterial contamination, chemical exposure, and situations involving disease and illness all fall within what I am trained and certified to assess.
The first call is always free. Call me and ask if your situation is one I can help with. That is all I want. To help.
When the surface tells you nothing, forensics tells you everything.

"In my line of work with Forensics Bio-Cleaners LTD, I deal with the stuff most people don't want to think about. When my team and I are out on a hoarding site or a bio-remediation job, we’re doing the heavy lifting to get a property safe and livable again. But there’s a critical link in the chain that almost everyone overlooks: the trash bins.
I’m putting my full support behind Arkansas Valley Bin Cleaning because, as a certified Bio-Tech, I know that a dirty trash can is essentially a petri dish sitting in your driveway. You can scrub a house top-to-bottom, but if you’re throwing waste into a bin that’s never been properly sanitized, you’re just inviting bacteria like Salmonella, Listeria, and E. coli to breed right outside your door.
I’ve seen firsthand how easily cross-contamination happens. Most people think a garden hose and some soap will do the trick it won't. You need the professional know how, medical-grade tech these guys use to actually kill the pathogens and stop viral outbreaks before they start.
I don’t put my name behind just anyone. I’m backing this service because it’s a massive win for the health of our community here in the Valley. If you want your home truly bio-secure especially after a major cleanup or a hoarding project this is the final step. It’s professional-grade disinfection at small-town prices, and it’s something every homeowner in the Arkansas Valley needs to be looking at."

Just because it’s a trash can doesn’t mean it has to smell like trash. If your bins are starting to stink or get buildup, I can take care of it for you 👍 I’ve got $10 first cleanings available for the next 20 people who book a cleaning in La Junta and the surrounding areas. Message me or text me at 719-470-1129 to get on the schedule.

Most people think what we do is just about "cleaning up a mess," but the reality is that extreme bio-recovery is actually a high-stakes preservation game. One thing people don't realize and what keeps property value from tanking is that we don't just "clean" surfaces. We utilize industrial-grade fogging technology to reach the spots a human hand literally can’t get to. This isn't just a surface wipe; it's an atmospheric treatment that aerosolizes our specialized enzyme treatments to hunt down organic hazards at a molecular level. Once that enzyme treatment has dried, we follow up with hospital-grade disinfectants to ensure the environment is stabilized and properly decontaminated. We’re essentially dismantling the problem from the inside out to protect the structural integrity of the building.
I’ve scaled our operations at Hoarding & Forensics Bio-Cleaners LTD to be available anywhere in the United States, and we’ve moved into a much more technical space to support the people who keep our communities running. We are now offering specialized decontamination for schools, correctional facilities, police cruisers, and fire departments. When it comes to our first responders, our focus is on total environment safety. We use that same fogging tech to hit every crevice of a patrol unit, fire truck, or transport vehicle, neutralizing bio-risks to ensure the officers, firefighters, and those in custody are all in a safe, decontaminated environment.
Whether it’s a residential estate or a high-occupancy government facility, we bring a level of work rooted in the discipline of law enforcement and the precision of certified bio-remediation. As a prior law enforcement officer, I personally know the proper steps and procedures to collect and preserve evidence that may have been missed during the initial investigation. We are highly trained and deeply disciplined in this field, treating every site with a tactical focus. We aren't a maid service; we’re a professional resource that understands the stakes of public safety and property restoration. If you’re managing a situation that feels overwhelming or a facility that needs a professional-grade restoration, we’re ready to deploy.
We handle the heavy lifting and the high-level science so you don’t have to.
