Have you ever seen a column of ants marching through your garden carrying pieces of your plants? Did you follow them and watch them disappear underground with the stolen foliage? If so, you are probably dealing with leaf cutter ants. They are taking the plant material down into their colony which is home to at least 2,000 other ants. The foliage is used to create a fungus that will be the food source for the entire colony. (In this video, the ants were defoliating a Peggy Martin Rose).
