🌱 The transformation is underway

We’re taking the bare side of this cottage and turning it into a dreamy garden full of perennials —

• flowering schedules have been carefully taken into account to allow for spring - fall blooms
• these plants, many of which are native, were chosen for the given conditions — lots of sun, clay soil
• plants will be spaced pretty closely.. as they grow and fill in over time, they'll steal real estate from w**ds
• the pictured cardboard is part of a chemical- free process to kill as many w**ds as we can in the area before we amend the soil with compost + topsoil, and shape + edge the bed
• much of the planting will happen in a couple of weeks, and we’ll fill in the rest in spring

🌱 Dead heading with a side of latte ☕️

The herb garden at has fared so well in the full sun, parking lot, shallow container conditions. Along with the existing mint, sage, and rosemary, we added thyme, chives, chamomile, oregano, sweet potato vines, and marigolds — plants that are actually meant to live in hot, dry conditions.

All of these still need regular watering if you have them in extreme conditions, but they will do better than something that is meant for a moister, shadier environment.

In a few weeks we’ll trim everything down that has flowered to give it a good clean up, and make a few replacements to take us into fall.
