This spring was drier than any spring since they started recording rainfall in 1893. Are your trees getting enough water?

This May/June Boulder got .71 inches of rainfall. The next lowest rainfall May/June in the last 100 years was 1977 where they got over double that amount with 1.59 inches.

Trees in Colorado generally require 2 inches of water over the entire root zone once per month. Unless your tree is completely surrounded by very well irrigated grass it may not be getting the water it needs. Read our article below for more information and a protocol on exactly how to make sure your trees will remain healthy coming into the hottest months of the year.

This is what happens when you improperly plant trees. The owner of these trees called us in to identify cause of death and replace these two spruces. The twine used to hold the root ball together during transplanting was left on the trees and girdled (cut off circulation) the tree and killed it. Fortunately we found this out and realized every single tree planted along their back fence had the same issue and we were able to solve the problem before it killed the rest of them.

Maples are flowering and you know what that means! Well in case you don't we're here to fill you in. Maples in Colorado often suffer from chlorosis cased by nutrient deficiency due to alkaline soil so to keep them healthy they need your help to get the micronutrients they need. There are a few ways to tackle this problem but the easiest solution is just to spread these nutrients over the soil in the spring before they start to leaf out. Now is the time to spread those nutrients so that when its time for them to make their leaves they have all the nutrients they need to stay healthy. Our article linked below will give you all the information you need about chlorosis and how to take care of your tree properly!

Emerald ash borer (EAB) is an invasive insect that has no natural predators and will kill every untreated ash in its path. Over the last few years EAB has been found all over Boulder country and has spread to the surrounding areas. Fortunately there are treatment options and when proper treatment is done before the insects cause damage there is essentially a 100% survival rate.
