We also specialize in salvaging old cypress barns from being demolished and sent to the landfill. We then re purpose and reuse the material to preserve and continue the history in our many woodworking projects. If you or someone you know has an old barn please contact us at [email protected] with photos, a brief description and location. Home of The Cajun Woodworker! Even after finishing your doors, warping and bowing may still occur due to changing climates and temperatures. There will be no returns, refunds or exchanges for change in finish due to weather conditions, warping, bowing, whether for unfinished or finished doors. All our doors are considered rustic in nature, some made from recycled or reclaimed materials, so some inconsistencies may occur in the wood.

Working on cutting the ends of this beam for a mantel. We make the initial cuts, then use a pull saw to finish the cut and get all the way through the beam. Taking our time and making sure everything comes out clean.

Over at the anvil, shaping the ends and working that metal by hand. A little heat, a few good strikes, and some attention to the details.

Old-school methods for a custom piece.

Working on a blacksmith-style stocking holder for a mantel project.
We heat the ends of the rod and hammer them down to a tapered point, adding a little extra character and a handcrafted touch to the finished piece. It’s the small details that make the difference!

Big piece of old wood getting a slow ride through the planer. Take a little off, check it, run it again. Eventually she’ll be flat and ready for the next step.

Old wood. Big boards. No shortcuts.

Keeping the planer bed waxed helps those big reclaimed boards slide through easier, keeps things moving smooth, and takes some strain off the machine.

Before the glue ever comes out, we test fit everything.

Line the boards up, find the best grain pattern, make sure everything fits tight, then number each board so it goes right back where it belongs.

A little extra time here makes a big difference when it’s time to put it all together.

A simple straight board nailed down gives us a reference to run these reclaimed boards against the table saw and get a clean, straight edge.

Old wood isn’t always cooperative… but that’s the part I enjoy.
