Milan Salone del Mobile, Part I

Back from a week of exploration, discovery, and inspiration at Salone del Mobile: the biggest design week of the year. The energy in the city was intoxicating. Milano, you have my heart.

I can’t wait to see how we bring some of this inspiration to life on our drawing boards.

Huma sat with Editor-in-Chief of at Westweek, the Celebration of 50 years of design. says “
The Moody Shade That Will One -Up White Exteriors “ and we agree. Even though we love a white exterior it’s time for some moody shade.

In the piece, I spoke about the noticeable shift we’re seeing toward moodier palettes, with deep hues like aubergine, olive, ochre, and mauve-taupe becoming new staples. It’s exciting to see this movement embraced, as it reflects a growing desire for depth, warmth, and character in both exteriors and interiors.

Swipe to see our favorite for moody exterior.

Check out what we said when asked the design trends that you will see in 2026:

Designer Huma Sulaiman adds that Eastern craft traditions, from nerikomi and imari hailing from Japan to South Asia’s hand-dyed textiles, are also seeing a renewed interest and appreciation within the design industry. “Increasingly, designers are also drawing from Eastern craft traditions: handwoven textiles, carved woods, inlay work, brass detailing, and natural dyes that bring a depth of color few other regions produce.
We’ve been working on a custom Jamdani weave, a custom Bangladeshi technique used for saris, adapted to interiors, says Sulaiman.
Not only do these details create one-of-a-kind moments that can play out from the living room to the dinner table, they also allow these traditions to live on for future generations to honor and enjoy.
