Beware of Scams – If It Sounds Too Good to Be True, It Probably Is
Recently, I received a phone call from someone claiming to be a potential customer in Florida. He said he needed the exterior of his house painted before moving in and gave me the address to take a look.
When I arrived at the property, I noticed there was no “For Sale” or “Sold” sign—something that immediately raised my suspicions. I called the customer back and asked if I could walk the property, and he gave me permission. After inspecting the home, I told him I would put together a contract, and once signed, we could begin the work.
Then came the next red flag: the "customer" called again saying he wanted to pay me upfront. I told him that’s not how I do business—I don’t take upfront payments before a contract is signed and verified.
To confirm my gut feeling, I returned to the house the next morning and spoke directly with the actual homeowner. I explained the situation, and right there in front of him, I called the scammer's number. The homeowner spoke with the scammer and told him, “I just bought this house.” The scammer immediately hung up.
If something seems off—it probably is. Trust your instincts and always verify who you're doing business with.
I’m sharing this phone number and email in hopes that it helps others avoid being taken advantage of:
