Now that all the baby veggie plants have found their new homes and my garden is planted, it's time to start on my next wild idea - wish me luck!

Inspired by my nieces, I'd like to start offering lessons on what I'm calling "grandma skills" (until I find a better name for it). I am so blessed to be part of an unbroken line of knowledge from the mothers and grandmothers before me, as well as other wonderful women I've met in my life. And I am so honored that I get to pass some of this forward to my nieces.

Talking with these young ladies and their mothers, I sense a desire to engage in these lost skills and a longing to reconnect in a way that seems long forgotten - and maybe a drive to make something with meaning and purpose and craftsmanship. I would love the opportunity to share these skills and ways of connecting with more people.

My nieces are interested in sewing, knitting, crochet, embroidery, jam and pie crust making, mending and hemming, quilting, handwriting, gardening, canning, and fun projects - I could teach any of these skills and I'm open to other topics as well.

I don't have all the details worked out just yet, but I have a really clear picture in my head. I'm thinking about private and small group in-person lessons for adults, teens, and preteens. Depending on interest, I might even like to revive a version of what my grandma called "circle" - a "granny circle" if you will.

More to come, and please feel free to message me, share this info, or send me suggestions!

I know I tell you all that they're fully hardened off and ready to go, this batch has been through several tornado warnings already, and now today hail! They're still good to go!

Why should you buy these babies?
1. They're so pretty! And delicious!
2. Heirloom varieties only - means beautiful history and NO GMOs.
3. Growing in ORMI certified organic potting mix.
4. I sterilize and reuse pots to save on plastic and will happily accept your empty pots back after you've planted to have another round!
4.Hearty! These babies have been withstanding the rigors of outdoor Wisconsin since they sprouted their first wee true leaves, withstanding the wind and rain and cooler temperatures, and real sunshine! No additional hardening off required.
5. These have all been potted up by hand, so they can grow strong, healthy roots...No bound-up root balls.
6. Planted in time with the moon, cared for and handled by my own dirty hands, with love and respect and wishes for a wonderful, fruitful life!

I grew up on a lake. Not this one. This one seems so busy compared to my little country lake...

There are still moments though when we catch each other in a quiet break. I wonder if I remind her of quieter, more carefree days like she reminds me. When I sit with her and I remember who I am, I wonder if she remembers who she is too.

Is anyone else secretly hoping that tonight might actually be the last night of frost danger? ❄️ I know it's early, but a gardener can hope!

(Current average last frost date for Jefferson Co. WI according to the Old Farmer's Almanac is 5/1, which means there's still a 30% chance of frost in the weeks following 5/1, so I'm metering my enthusiasm 😉)

The babies 🌱 are already exploring the great outdoors, from the safety of the front porch, and eagerly awaiting the right day for potting up.

Summertime! My favorite time of year! I'm bottling sunshine in syrups I will use to flavor cool, refreshing beverages anytime I need a drink of joy and contentment.

There are two jars of elderflower-lemon, one jar of chamomile-orange, and one chamomile-orange strawberry. We restocked our strawberry freezer jam too!

Have you made anything recently? Do you celebrate the beginning of summer?

Strong, hearty tomatoes, even after a week and a half of HOT, brutally sunny weather for this time of year. Walking through a large commercial greenhouse this week, I see their vegetable plants are starting to look a little rough, a little rootbound, a little long and lanky...

This is why I pot up all the plants a couple of weeks before planting dates, and I force these little babies to live outside, in the full weather, as much as possible from the time they sprout their first wee true leaves. These little guys are tough!

Hi folks, I'm off picnicking with family today! Lucky me, right?! There's going to be tons of yummy food, I'm bringing a French lemon tart.

If you need tomato plants today, you're on the honor system, you can leave money in the mailbox since the mailman won't be using it today. I'll be back at the house all day tomorrow. Happy Memorial Day.
