BUILDINGS THAT INSPIRE

Bauhaus was an influential German art school in the early 20th
century. It was founded by architect Walter Gropius in 1919 and
closed by the N***s in 1933. Bauhaus aimed to unify art, craft, and technology, and to make works of art accessible to all. The school is known for its distinctive, modernist style and its use of basic geometric shapes and primary colors. Bauhaus had a radical approach to design and influential on modernist architecture and art movements.

What's in a Style?

Art Deco was an influential art and architectural movement that spread across the world during the interwar period of the 1920s and 1930s. Art Deco rejected the naturalistic and whimsical forms of Art Nouveau in favor of sleek and geometric shapes. Bold colors, streamlined design and often includes luxurious materials such as marble, chrome, and mirrors. It was characterized by its highly modernist style, bold geometric shapes, and vibrant colors.

Art Deco had a major impact on architectural design, influencing skyscraper design and public buildings. The most recognizable elements of Art Deco architecture are its geometric shapes and curved outlines. The style was used for the construction of public buildings such as train stations, theaters, and government buildings throughout the world. Art Deco also had a major influence on the design of skyscrapers, using intricate rooflines and metal cladding to achieve a sleek and modern look for the time

I fell in love with this design style when I worked on the top occupiable floor of the Chrysler Building during the Summer of 2001. The second tier of the chrome roof and the center Triangle window was something I got to look out of every day. The elevators were beautifully designed with inlaid metal in wood. The exterior has modern gargoyles overlooking the city as well as majority of the exterior brick cladding with remarkable designs to resemble the cars that Chrysler was known for.

PRO-TIP: 10 WAYS TO SPRUCE UP ANY ROOM IN YOUR HOME.
1. Hang new curtains or fabric on the walls.
2. Add an area rug to brighten up the room.
3. Place some house plants to bring in life and color to the room.
4. Create wall art with posters, wall stickers, or framed photographs.
5. Bring in some decorative pillows and throw blankets.
6. Paint the walls with a new color, wallpaper, or even a stencil design.
7. Add a colorful couch, accent chair, or unique end tables to the room.
8. Install dimmers for the overhead lights and lamps.
