What’s happened since my last update in October of last year? A LOT.
First n’ foremost: I wasn’t successful on getting the cash raised to close on the lots next to 𝕨𝕙𝕚𝕥𝕖 𝕤𝕨𝕒𝕟 𝕞𝕠𝕥𝕖𝕝. It was disappointing to lose out on the assemblage, but it’s not a dead end and we’re still in close talks with our neighbor on long term planning. But! We signed another year contract with JCHS to run as a shelter for another year, and that’s going well. So many families coming straight off the street and into stable, permanent housing after a stint living with us, and that continues to feel like such an amazing use of the property.
In Del Norte, I decided to renovate The Canteen (our 24/7 guest vending room) and convert one of our guest rooms into a Bunk Room. Ya girl loves a project. We’re also working with ShelterBelt Design on expansion plans for the lot nextdoor to Mellow Moon | Boutique Motor Lodge, along with a lot of fun in-progress partnership convos + projects here in the SLV that I’ll share more on soon.
And in rapid fire update form:
💉 Our oldest son Everett was diagnosed with T1D last Fall at just 3 years old. It’s been a LOT to navigate, but he’s the most resilient ‘n brave dude and we are grateful for the medical tech available to help us manage the disease for him.
🌾 I officially spun off a consulting arm — follow along Fieldwork | Journal + Studio if you aren’t already! — and have picked up some small projects + clients as I formalize a way to support other founders, owner/operators, and consumer-facing brands in my orbit.
👊 I am working with independent lodging owners across the country and the AG here in Colorado to build a case against the s**t companies behind third party booking sites like HotelPlanner and HotelsOne and Reserve1 and ReservationDesk (and dozens more…) that are impersonating small lodging businesses like ours, and ripping off our customers when they intercept bookings as affiliates of Expedia + Booking.com — it’s a massive lift that I’ve been working on for nearly a year now (so much documentation / red tape 😵💫) but progress is being made. Plz be diligent when you’re making hotel reservations for summer travel that you are booking DIRECT!
