I’ve been incredibly fortunate to have worked at Centennial Airport for nearly 29 years, and yesterday was one of those days that reminded me just how special the people and relationships we build along the way can be.
I had the absolute honor of being part of a surprise celebration for Lorie, the retiring Assistant Airport Director. Way back when I was just getting started in this industry, Lorie chose our proposal to upgrade the airport’s card reader system. I never could have imagined that one opportunity would turn into a relationship that has lasted nearly three decades.
What made yesterday even more special was being included in the surprise the amazing airport staff put together for Lorie. Getting to watch her take a ride in a WWII-era P-51 Mustang was pretty incredible, but the water salute from the South Metro Fire RescueARFF Strikers was the perfect way to celebrate someone who has contributed so much to Centennial Airport, its staff, tenants, and the many contractors who have worked there over the years.
I’ve met a lot of great people during my 29 years at Centennial, but Lorie is definitely someone who stands out. She has had a tremendous impact not only on the airport, but also on the way we’ve grown and run our business. I’ll always be grateful that she took a chance on a young guy just getting started in the industry and gave us the opportunity to prove ourselves.
Those opportunities and relationships have meant more to me than I probably realized at the time, and I’m incredibly thankful for them.
Congratulations on your retirement, Lorie! It was an absolute privilege to be there yesterday and to celebrate you. I hope you know how many people appreciate you and the lasting impact you’ve had on Centennial Airport and the people who have had the opportunity to work with you.
Enjoy this next chapter—you’ve definitely earned it!
