The Hillside home was designed to artfully shut down when the clients head south in the winters. We clad the walls and roof in wooden slats that continued over the shutters — when needed, the shutters come down to prepare the home for the winter.

Happy 2026! ✨ Something we’re reflecting on at H+A as we ring in the new year.

Architect Glenn Murcutt has a disarmingly simple approach to architecture and expression. The Marie Short / Glenn Murcutt House, seen here, is an old favorite of mine. The house is made up of two nearly identical structures: one for sleeping, the other for living.

We took the same care on the interior of the project as we did with the exterior. It was important to feel the presence of both the valley and the forest in every room of the house.

For example, we ensured each bedroom on the second floor had skylights so that each one had both views of the valley and views of the forest canopy up the hill. Swipe to see on slide 5 ➡️

An important consideration for the project was constructing both public and private spaces with a clear delineation between the two; spaces for the family and spaces from which to work from home.

We achieved this by separating the two functions into two different wings of the house, which you can see in these aerial images.

Introducing Fox Hill — our newest residential project.

The house sits on a hillside at the edge of a valley and a forest and maximizes both the expansive view of the valley and the sense of enclosure provided by the forest wall.

Over the next week, we’ll delve into some elements of the design. Follow along!

A sneak peak of our new residential project, Fox Hill.

This new home is perched near the top of a hill on a steep slope, offering some really spectacular views. As you can see in these shots, we used a ribbon of stone to ground the house.

We’re excited to begin sharing more from this project in the coming weeks!

The ‘Cor Cordis’ lies at the center of , both literally and figuratively. “The Heart of Hearts” of the school is the home to the library, counseling offices, the health center and spirituality center — offering the students a place to find and share comfort, support and communion. When drafting the masterplan, we wanted to create a space that reflected that ethos of service.

Directly off the ‘Cor Cordis’ staircase at Stuart Country Day School of the Sacred Heart is the library. We expanded the library by combining three adjacent spaces and unified them by creating a ribbon of shelves that run along the entire east wall. Into the shelves, we built nooks for display and for students to read and study.

Swipe to see some before and after shots of the space’s transformation.
